I’ve wondered this myself. I do know they run into major problems with the credit card companies because of their high volume of charge backs.
It seems easy enough if you don’t mind being in that sort of business. Find 1000 people out there willing to pay you 20 bucks a year and you’ve got a nice supplement to your income. Of course, so does that $5 multi level marketing scam where you send it to people on the list. It must not be that easy or everybody would be doing it.

I have made purchases of adult website memberships, particularly unusual ones. Not only am I in the business myself and it IS research, I’m also human and curious.
The second remark refers to using popups and other tricks on MY website to trap visitors or drive them to other websites so I can make money advertising. I do none of the these things and I never have.
by the way, the “free” sites aren’t free, as you know. They are full of ads and popups and other distractions. They have to be. People are not going to maintain porn for you to jack off to out of the goodness of their hearts.
As with everything that appears to be free, someone is paying for it. In this case, it is the surfer who decides to pay for sites that will offer him tons of (usually) high quality content without hassling him to death with ads. Because he pays, you guys get a free ride.
But if enough people decide to be cheap, the free stuff will go away. If no one is paying, then there is no point in paying someone to advertise your site, yes?
