Hi,
I was really wondering and searching the net for this info but i can’t find out anywhere. How much do sex sites earn? i mean on the average, stats etc. Since there are so many and they are cropping up day by day and they seem to be able to afford real expensive domains and stuff. So could anyone provide me with info? Any guesses??
Beats me.
With so many of them having “backdoor” TGP pages and quite a few link sites listing hundreds of them, I can see plenty of porn for free without signing on to their “low low price” of $1.95 a day.
I guess there’re enough purveyors out there that aren’t patient enough to view 12 pictures at a time to make it a profitable biz.
but the answer isnt’ fixed.
Some sites earn a few hundred bucks a month. If they are lucky. In fact, I’d say most sites fall in that range.
Others make ten or twenty thousand a month up to4-5 million.
See? Not very helpful.
By the way, the make or break factor for MOST sites is nothing more than traffic. If you can get enough people to your site, and you don’t completely and utterly suck, you can make money.

Yeah but the link sites and stuff send huge amounts of traffic to their site. I its not like the straightdope is charging us anything but our being here is generating advertising revenue.
So i mean they would be making more from the links which is probably why they don’t really mind?
this brings me to another question, how can you convert traffic into $$$. I mean is there any formula i.e
income=visitors multiplied by 5 cents per visitor.
How much is the income per visitor??
Most websites that generate revenue from advertising do so with banner ads. These are usually served from a banner ad company’s server and that company keeps track of how many ads it serves through the web site’s server and pays based on that. The actual figure is negotiated and then stated in a contract. Usually this is expressed in CPM (cost per thousand)terms. I’m not sure what a normal amount CPM is, but for a small website that I own the banner ad company pays $3 CPM. In other words for every 1000 ad impressions the banner ad company pays 3 dollars.
No, it isn’t a porno site so don’t ask for free passwords.
Yes but can anyone get me some figures of some sex sites and their earnings or something of the sort. Its really what i’m looking for.
Porn “content” providers are privately owned, and therefore don’t report financials. According to an article called “siliporn valley” that I read in the free San Jose area paper, much of the internet infrastructure and the large hosting sites, as well as many of the technology advances, were built with porn money (the valleys dirty little secret). Most companies that host porn sites don’t list them as porn sites, according to the article, so it’s very difficult to find out how much money is changing hands over internet porn. I also read, I believe in the Wall Street Journal, that AOL was built with adult chatroom money. (that is, that was the primary use of AOL in its earlier days, not as much now)
WOW SHOCKING STUFF!!!
they can make anywhere from zero to millions.
A new site with nothing special to offer, no experience, and no miracle for creating traffic is not going to make much money in the year 2001.
If there is a formula of any kind, it is this:
If you can drive 1000 visitors to your site each day, and those visitors come from some FRESH source (meaning they are not produced by circle jerks of sites passing the visitors from one to the next), ideally, search engines, you will be fortunate to make $300 per month. Enough to maybe cover your bandwidth.
AWB is an example of the average porn surfer, you should know. That is why it is so difficult to make money, particularly if you try to do so by trading links with other sites and TGP sites. The vast majority of traffic you will get will be AWB…and unless someone, somewhere along the way, is willing to open their wallet and pull out their credit card, you ain’t gonna make money.
The time to get rich with porn was 1997. Not now. Save yourself the heartache.

I don’t have anything to add to the discussion, but I just wanted to say that I’m shocked, truly I am, that such an august personage as Professor Dumbledore would be asking this question. Think of the children, sir.
Looks like Hogwarts is gonna have to start monitoring their Internet connection…
Harry: “Why can’t I see Dumbledore? His door is locked.”
Prof. McGonagall: “This is his ‘alone time.’ Don’t ask for more details.”
A friend of mine makes his living in the Adult Site industry. He makes about twice what I make at my “legitimate” job as a data analyst. His SO said that she was making about $300/month before she quit. About what I make in a couple of days at my “real” job. This friend had (or has?) contacts who were making $50,000/month each and living on an island in the Caribbean. I know someone who used to be in the biz that was making up to $300/month; but who had server problems and a sponsor that went out of the business for a while, and it took him months to get the minimum $50 payout from his other sponsor.
So I guess you could say it varies a bit.
I asked the friend who makes his living on porn what it takes to get to his position. He said, “First you quit your job. Then you starve for six months while you build the traffic by working 16 to 18 hours a day. And it helps if you live in an area with low rent and have a girlfriend who has a regular job.”
Ha Ha
well now you know what the gargoyle is doing in front of my room and why the headmasters office is protected by a password. Harry had to guess the password to get in last time. How many colleges have that? Now you know…
Prof. McGonagall: “hey babe wanna shag?”
Prof. Dumbledore: “Ummm… you know my problem oh wait, i have learnt a new spell for that: (lifting his wand) VIAGRUM!!!..Thats better…
Lets have some sex babe…ummm…wait let me turn my webcam on…HogwartsSex.com…wow big $$$'s”.

I’ve been on the Internet since 1987, and surfing the Web since it’s inception, but I have no idea what a “TGP page” is.
Besides, you’re an idiot if you pay for porn online. There’s Usenet, where you can satisfy just about any fetish or kink for the cost of your Internet access. There’s a slew of free sites out there that aren’t as hardcore as the pay sites, that are run more as hobbies than anything else.
I’m wondering … do some of the porn site operators think they’ll really get anyone to sign up with ther service if they perform every Java nasty in the book – opening up tens of multiple browsers, blowing up pages to full window size, making it impossible to close a browser or get away from a site, resetting your default home page to that of the porn site, and so on? Does that crap work?
Not usually, but its like a used car salesmen, once you leave there is zero chance of making a sale, so there is nothing to loose by pissing you off with the hard sell.
A TGP is a thumbnail gallery post, A list of links to pages of thumbnails in the middle of a site (At least that’s what someone told me ). These are where you find a lot of the tricks mentioned above.
A friend of mine runs an adult site, he owes me money. I think the OP is like asking ‘How much money does a small business make’, anywhere from a few bucks (literally) to millions, or losing money.
Apparantly it does, or they wouldn’t keep doing it. Although i cannot begin to imagine why, since whenever I run across that shit I just get so disgusted I crash my browser myself to escape.
Even if you make a purchase it doesn’t stop, which is the part that amazes me.
I have never indulged in that stuff, and I never would. I think that is one of the lesser reasons we do so well. We don’t have so much as one banner on our site, much less a forest of popups.
stoid
Hmmm, you say
and
Well then how would you know? Sounds like someone is contradicting themself. Or is this a FOAF told me situation
Well… Danni from Danni’s Hard Drive was on Howard Stern once, and she was saying that she makes several million dollars every month.
Also, most reputable and good sites do not have java popups like that.
P.S. That’s not a real porn link! Ha ha, fooled you.
I have read & seen on the tube the salaries of porn sites but I don’t believe them. It’s easy to lie about that sort of thing & being the kind of business it is, I wouldn’t say its one you’d be truthful about. After all, the more you say you lie about making the more people might subscribe.
Of course, no offense to any porn site members who wrote here, as Im talking about porn site owners on TV talking about the salary they make.
I think one of the better sites would be the jenni cam. She is pretty reasonable with what she says she gets. She only charges $15 a year.

Well Here’s the theory on that one: sites pay 3 cents per visitor you send to their site. So if you manage to attract 1000 non-paying people to your site, you end up with nothing, but if you make 5 windows popup, you get a sureshot 15 cents per customer which means 150 bucks. Thats how i’d see it.
