I have an area in my yard that’s 20 x 25 feet with pea gravel mixed in with the dirt. If I use a Bobcat to scrape down 3 inch’s how much would this approximately weigh? I’m thinking of using a dumpster bag with a weight limit of 3300 lbs.
My rough math with 1 ton per cubic yard is 10,000 lbs.
Maybe look at the weight of what is called “clean fill” and compare that. Just a guess.
Depending on how compacted it is, soil can weigh between like 85 and 135 pcf. You’d probably be on the lower end of that. Probably like 12,000 lbs or so.
Im way off. What would be a cheap and easy way to get rid of 10,000 12,000 lbs of mixed dirt and gravel?
Is there anyplace in your yard you can repurpose it? Maybe a raised flowerbed or other landscaping feature? Any low spots in your yard that needs to be filled? Hauling it away will get expensive, I don’t think a standard bobcat has the height to dump the load in a standard dump truck, so now you need to factor in the costs of using a larger front end loader or backhoe.

Can you get 3 or 4 dumpster bags?
Cover it with more dirt?
Get an industrial sifter and sift out the gravel?
Just get a contractor with a dump truck to take it away. You might be able find a contractor who could use it, but they usually have dirt to get rid of and only want to take clean fill. It’s possible that a nearby gravel mine would take it since they’ll have to sift whatever they dig up anyway, and even if they don’t want to use it they’ll have someplace to dump it.
