How often do you get a haircut

I walked into my local cheapo haircut place (one of the national chains) to get my usual trim. I personally don’t like getting my haircut, probably because the conversation is inane and having people whiz about my head with sharp objects in unnerving, but shaving my head at home or letting it grow out has been forbidden by Mrs. Coder, so I usually only get my hair cut three or four times a year.

Normally this is not an issue, but today the stylist (is there a feminine for barber?) seemed shocked, shocked that my last haircut was in January. My response was “yep, sounds accurate. So, number 3?”, but she didn’t let it go. It got uncomfortable, but I suppose she decided it wasn’t going to do her tip any favors to harp on the last date any more and eventually I got my hair cut without further incident.

So my question to the Dope: how far out of whack is my haircut schedule? Poll to follow

I enjoy getting my hair and beard trimmed, so I go every four to six weeks. The barbershop I go to is about a seventy minute drive, or I’d go more often.

I’m a female, with long hair, usually mid-back to waist-length. When it gets too long to comfortably and easily put up, I go and get it trimmed back to bra-strap length, so once or twice a year.

My husband never goes to get his hair cut anymore, he just buzzes it himself with the clippers. The last time anyone actually cut his hair was when he was in a nursing/rehab home recovering from brain surgery, and his hair was growing out all weird from the way it had been shaved for the surgery. There was a barber who came to the nursing home to do haircuts periodically so husband got the barber to even out his hair.

Every 5 weeks. I have a pixie cut and my hair has gotten more and more uncooperative as I’ve gotten older, so if I wait any longer I look more like a gremlin.

I get mine cut about once a month.

I can sort of figure out your poll options based on context, but taken alone they don’ make much sense. Leave off “less than” on 2-5.

I cut (trim) it mostly myself, not so much to save money (but having the extra money helps), but because I don’t like the waiting in hair salons. On the rare occasions that I do go to a hair salon it is one of the inexpensive chains (no appointment needed). My hair is fairly long and it is easy for me to trim it, as I just pull it around from my back and trim a little every few months or so.

About every six weeks or so.

Me as well, although I could probably go 6 weeks without looking too 1970s like.

Every 3 weeks, Saturday at noon. That’s one thing I won’t compromise on. Thankfully the salon is a few blocks from my apartment

About every month, give or take a week or so, or however long it takes to go from buzzed to “visibly affected by gravity” (a little over half an inch).

I used to go to a hair place but it was erratic. Budget and other things meant haircuts were 3-6 months apart.

Bought a set of clippers and cobs a couple of months ago, now it’s a quick go over weekly. Not a buzz cut, #8 comb (1 inch).

I have a regular lady I go to about every three months or so, when my bangs start to get unmanageable. Next month she’s going to do highlights on me.

I have long hair, so I get it cut professionally maybe twice a year and ask my SO to trim it in between. I get mad that I have to pay $20 for nothing more than a trim, and I hate the inane chatter too, so I wait a long time.

Maybe every 6 weeks. Ever since the new barber came to down I go there more often for a beard trim and shave so he’ll trim around the hair a little. Eventually he’ll say it’s time for a full cut. I kind of miss my long hair now but I don’t have the patience to grow it back again.

I have long hair. I get a cut once every 2-3 years. Basically, I get it cut to just past shoulder length, then get another cut when it reaches butt-length.

Usually give the resulting “rope” to charity.

I haven’t had a haircut since August 2001.

Once every seven weeks or so. I’m now bald on top, so if I wait too long I start looking like Krusty the Clown.

About once a month. I enjoy getting it cut, the physical sensation, and would go more often if it weren’t for the inane chatter. I’d prefer just to sit there quietly.

When I was a kid, we were expected to go every 2 weeks. But that was before the '60s kicked in.

Every year on my birthday, whether I need it or not.

Twice a year maybe, but I do my own colour and stuff, and I wear my hair back 95% of the time for work.
