How often do you poop?

When I was a kid, my grandparents made it a point to inquire about the status of your “B.M.” (Bowel movement).

This group leans older, right? Old people care about pooping.

And for good reason! Few things are as satisfying as a robust evacuation. And few things are as uncomfortable as an inability to do so.

Now aged 47, I delight in eating a lot of fiber in my diet. And, provided I’m sufficiently hydrated, that means I’m good for morning, noon, and night.

How about you? How often do you poo?

  • Once a day
  • 2-3 times a day
  • more than 3 times a day
  • a few times a week
  • once a week
  • fewer than once a week
  • I’ve made other arrangements

Usually once a day, sometimes twice. I do it when the urge strikes me.

I have had IBS-D for decades, so 1-5x daily is not unusual. Since starting Ozempic about 2 years ago, my gut has slowed significantly. I can still have a 5x day, but I can also stretch that out to once every 3 days. I’d say 2x daily would be my norm.

Too much. I’m actually trying to find out right now why diarrhea strikes me right after I eat. I’m super bored with this shit (ha!), but in memory of @Maggie_the_Ocelot I persevere.

I selected once a day as that’s most common, but depending on diet and activity it could reach three. But not usually.

I selected once a day but my actual average is somewhat less than once a day. But that wasn’t a choice.

My GI system has slowed to 2-3 times per day. I used to go 4-5 times daily, and seven poopers, though rare, did happen. My wife can’t imagine it. She probably averages 5-6 loafs weekly (loaves?).

Once a day, in the morning. A second is unusual. If traveling, I may get thrown off my rhythm and may go 2-3 days without.

Once a say, between 0600 and 0630. Am serious - it’s clockwork. I also eat a high-fiber diet.

It was once a day when my mother was cooking.

Now that I eat all kinds of […], it’s whatever and whenever.

Once a day, just before I take a shower in the morning. There are some outliers, but that’s the usual. The ghost poop makes an occasional (dis)appearance.

I regularly need to poop within (a) one hour of having coffee or (b) half an hour of entering a bookstore.

The frequency per day depends on the frequency of the above activities. I usually have coffee once per day and do not enter a bookstore. Ergo…

Please tell me you wake up before 7am!

As somebody who’s had a wildly varying daily schedule for the last 50ish years I find the idea of clockwork pooping insane. My wake-up time varies by 5 hours from day to day. Mealtimes might be immediately after wakeup, or 6 hours later. How the hell would clockwork pooping work in that world?

Me? Pooping? Eh, it’ll happen whenever it gets ready. WAG 6 to 72 hours after the last one. Unless I OD on coffee and cream. In which case it’s “shortly after standing up.” :poop:

I have been blessed with a largely trouble-free digestive system and normally make my “deposit” shortly after breakfast and my first (sometimes only) cup of caffeine for the day.

A daily BM is my goal, and usually I have success.

After much practice, I also take pride in farting only once a day. Unfortunately, it lasts for 45 minutes.:money_mouth_face:

Frequency is none of your damn business. What matters is regularity, and I’m good, thanks.

Golden Girls?

one of my favorite Sophia lines…

My mealtimes are pretty consistent, I exercise a lot (which helps to keep things moving in the gut), and I eat a lot. So, 3-4 times/day.

Also, I’ve never understood “Few things are more pleasurable than a robust evacuation.” I’ve never taken any pleasure in the process. It’s inconvenient and stinky. If I could do it less, I would.

Really?

Not to be gross (that ship has sailed, hasn’t it?), but when it all comes out on one long snake, and you feel completely emptied out when you are done, and you find you didn’t even need to use toilet paper…chef’s kiss
