How’s your summer concert season looking?

Dang, I’m super jealous of that. I’d love to see them, but they aren’t coming any closer to SoCal than Portland - that doesn’t happen to us, that happens to flyover country people!

I do, however, have tickets to see Rodrigo y Gabriela for the first time at the Hollywood Bowl this summer (which will be my first time at that venue too.) Been looking forward to catching them live for a couple years now.

Is the “Summer concert season” a thing in the States? Over here we have the festivals and stadium gigs in the summer, but I wouldn’t call it a “concert season” as such.

I’m going to a fair mixed bag over the next few months:

The Australian Pink Floyd at Jodrell Bank, which should be spectacular.

T in the Park, which is always a hoot and a chance to behave in a manner unseemly for a woman of my years. The line up is a bit “meh” this year, but Kraftwerk is a plus.

Festwich, in Manchester. I get the impression tribute bands are much more popular here than in the US. This one’s free, and a great chance to hear live rock music outdoors.

Tame Impala in August.

Then, in September, Roger Waters doing The Wall in both Amsterdam and London. I figured it would be rude not to.

Saw Trombone Shorty at Park West in Chicago last Fall and it was an incredible show. Man that guy can play.

If you ever get the chance, go see his cousin - Glen David Andrews - play a show. He does regular gigs ever week in New Orleans and tours a bit now and then. Another phenomenal performer.

We have a jazz festival here in summer. It’s really good. I can only afford the free outdoor concerts, though.

I like to go to classical music concerts, but there’s this thing that happens in Montreal during the summer that most of the classical concerts are outside of Montreal and only accessible by people with cars. :frowning:

He’s one of the few performers that I will give a repeat business. We saw him last year and I was blown away by his ability to play both of those horns equally well. Also, I love a big, brassy sound.

I also saw Paul McCartney in Memphis last weekend. Just an awesome concert and worth every penny.

I won’t see another concert until Michael Bublé in October.

Saw Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers a couple of weeks ago. (Great performance; douchebag hipsters directly in front of me who made, I kid you now, 11 trips to the bar in 2 hours.)

Only other thing planned this summer music-wise is The Great Blue Heron Music Festival July 5-7, where I’ll be on the First Aid Crew, enjoying the mainstage and dance tent acts while passing out band-aids and condoms and rescuing people with twisted ankles. I may even escape First Aid long enough to check out some of the other stages this year.

Oooooooh when is that show? I’d travel to see them for sure!

Only in the sense that most big concert tours happen in the summer - otherwise you’re limited to indoor venues, which might not work for many of the larger acts.

Personally, I’ve got tickets to see Lynyrd Skynyrd and Bad Company in June, Black Sabbath in August, and Taylor Swift the week after. I also plan on grabbing tickets to see the Protomen when they announce their annual swing through my neck of the woods.

I went to Maryland Deathfest last weekend in Baltimore. It’s a 4-day heavy metal festival. It was awesome.

hehe I couldn’t make it to that fest so I went to Chaos In Tejas to see Bolt Thrower. Unfortunately, I have a gig in Vegas so I can’t stay for the last half of the festival, meaning I’m going to miss a handful of bands I’d really like to see: Absu, Integrity, Speedwolf, Baroness… ah well, I’m already planning on coming back next year!

I’m seeing Ke$ha next week. Her concerts are pretty much the end-all and be-all of concerts for me, so I feel no need to see anyone else this year. She’s touring with Pitbull, but if she goes on first, I’m not even sure I’ll hang around to hear him.

Sunday, July 14th. Their website is www.rodgab.com

Awesome; thanks! That VIP thing is looking like a pretty good deal, even if it’s a fairly low end guitar. Although I’m thinking SLC is more fun than LA (and cooler, too).

Thanks very much for the heads up and the link! You totally fucking rock!

Just saw Motörhead with Anvil opening, and got tickets for the last Black Sabbath date of the U.S. tour in September. I’m still holding out hope that they’ll be able to cut a deal with Bill Ward.

A few weeks back I saw Cloud Cult live.

Over Memorial Day weekend I was at Sasquatch which was fantastic.

As for the rest of the summer it’s a sort of “wait and see” if I get the urge to see anyone else. Someone is trying to talk me into Rancid.

I am taking my 14 year old daughter to see Paul McCartney next month in Indianapolis. At $170 a ticket! Guess It’s been a while since I’ve been to a concert. Didn’t realize tickets were so expensive.

She is *infatuated *with the Beatles. She plays their music constantly, has seen their movies, etc. So she begged and pleaded with me to take her to the concert. I gave in.

I have a feeling I will be bored out of my mind. :frowning: But that’s O.K. It makes me happy knowing she will enjoy it.

I paid $229 a ticket! I thought the guy didn’t care too much for money, cause money can’t buy him love!!!

I guess he’s trying to make back what Heather took!

I’m not quite prepared to say he was worth every penny, but it was a great show. Even you won’t hate it too much!

Sorry, not gonna happen.

In the latest issue of Metal Hammer magazine (July 2013), Ozzy is quoted as saying that Bill’s skills weren’t really all there, prolly due to his health problems (Ward has had a couple of heart attacks). And Tony says that he (or his agent) were making unreasonable contract demands.

“It’s not a personal thing - we all love Bill, but he seems to think that somebody is ripping him off. And really, the demands he made were just over the top.”
