(oh, I forgot to ask: when people say your real name, does it take you a second?)
Some friends have been calling me Reverend Tim for while before I registered for the SDMB. Started when I became a minister of the ULC.
Just call me Spookydook.
Thanks,
Christine

etc.,etc.,…I’ve answered to all of these.
That was when I was still drinking.
I was excercising bad judgment and had horribly low standards.
Well, it’s a good thing that nobody I know of in real life calls me any variation of my screen name (except maybe poeople at the Dopefest I went to, but that was just initially). Then again, there was rjk at my birthday party, but then he’s probably never known me as anyrthing other than that.
As for names I have answered to either now or in the past:
Leslie
Les
Carrot (don’t ask… it was an old Gr. 9 nickname)
Sarne
Booty
Maisie
Maisarne
Sarney
Bomb-Bomb (nothing to do with real bombs)
Bomber (again, nothing to do with real bombs)
Lazy Lay (weird family nickname that has thankfully died out)
F_X
Oh yes… I forgot to add a few to the above list:
Fart
Chub
Lard (only when I am in an extremely generous mood toward my little sister… which is almost never… hehehe)
Ah, but who among you has people pronounce your screenname differently? I mean, it’s not like you can really pronounce Opal or Persephone (unless one is ignorant of mythology) differently … but I’ve met the p’nha folks and the poonuh folks and the “iampunha” folks and the punhaaa folks and Kyla (and someone else, I think) even thought it was iampoonya…
Ignoring, of course, the variants of my actual name.
Good god, Flammy, “Lazy Lay”?
That one’s… …unfortunate.
No…BUT! I’m sure you hear people around you, just in the background at stores and whatnot, saying “Katherine…” Whereas with my name, I never hear it unless someone’s talking to me.
Actually…that’s not true. I can think of a couple of occasions on which Tark has had to yell, “HAMA!” to get my attention. Oopsie.
Yeah, that is what I meant in the OP. It takes me a second to register “oh hey that’s me” when people call me Katherine. I’m such a dork.
Only Dopers call me Biggirl. Now that I think of it, they mostly call me by my real name. I dunno why-- I never call anyone by their real name.
I’ve known some Dopers upwards of two years now and they are all called by their screen names by me. Not only that, but I hardly ever call them by their “proper” screen name either. It’s usually some shortened version of it or my own mangled pronounciation. I try sometimes, but I’m never right.
I’ve only got but so many brain cells. People are allowed one name each and that’s it!
What I meant was: I try to call them by their real names, but I never get it right unless their screen name somehow incorporates their real name.
ahem
Eve beat me to it, but … I’m Dave. Always have been, always will be.
Along the same lines, but tangential - it really surprised me that it shook me up to the degree it did when I changed my screen name.
superbee, are you sure she wasn’t saying “lewd”?
They keep talking about the Lieutennant Governor here which consistently piques my interest. I usually mutter something about how that’s lieu sir to him.
only when I’m making cookies do I think of vanilla :o
I never knew you name was Katherine either. Nice name. But you will always be Opal to me. Going on three years now. Been quite a few dopers that when using their real name I have to do a double take to understand who the people are.
My name is Kerri, but since leaving highschool, I pretty much go by just K. If someone says Kerri, I don’t connect it to me. I used to be a Kerri, sure, but now I’m a K. I’ll answer just as quick to Grav, my girl has had to yell that across a parking lot a couple of times when I didn’t hear her yell “K!” Not too many folks named Grav hanging around, so I don’t filter it as neatly.
Yeah, but you’re our dork. And that makes all the difference.
teehee!
