I have two family friends who are both 6 feet 8 inches high. They were the tallest people I’ve known for decades, until last month when I met a dude who is 6’11".
Can anyone, um, top that?
mmm

We used to have a neighbor who was 6’11", but that was decades ago. I hear his son hit the same height. One daughter was 6’5" (she had a T-shirt that said, “I’m only 4’29”) and a good friend of my daughter. The other daughter, like their mother, was only 6’ even.
I went to college with the late Manute Bowl, so 7’ 7"
Damn spellcheck
He must have been striking.
mmm
I worked for a guy who was 7’ tall back in my lifeguard days.
Tallest dude I’ve ever known was 6’9, but I knew a woman who was 6’4, so I might be in the running for knowing the tallest woman. She was a college basketball player, and a really good friend of a friend, who used to come into the movies where I worked. Every now and then I’d run into her some place else, and we’d chat. Only serious jock I was ever really friends with.
If my son doesn’t slow down, all the height predictors say he will be 6’7. He’s 9 1/2 and 5’.
I’ve met guys 6’9", 6’10", and 6’11". The only guy I’ve really known for a while in that range is 6’7". I met a woman who was very tall, I’m guessing over 6’6".
I knew a young guy who was 6’11’’ and still growing. He’d been on growth retarding medication but had had to stop it due to the side effects. He had a poor prognosis for long term health
7’2" and no, he didn’t play basketball.
Knew another guy who was an even 7 feet.
The CEO at the last company I worked for was 6’6".
In college I knew a guy who was 6’11". On an everyday basis, I know several men who are around the 6’5" mark.
I think maybe my business partner who is a mere 6’3" or something.
Currently, the tallest person I know is probably around 6’6’ or so. Historically, the tallest person I personally knew was 6’10".
Tallest person I ever met in a social setting (Hakeem Olajuwon) was 7’0" or a bit taller.
Once hired a guy for a hotel opening - he was 18 and 6’10" and still growing. His mom was about 6’3", and his dad was 6’9". My employee left me to go back to school (basketball scholarship, go figure!) but I still keep up with him. He’s 7’1" now. No basketball career, thanks to a congenital hip problem. But he now works in marketing, for a major airline. We talk smack a lot - I regularly claim he owes me a vacation for what he learned from me. But he never has to fly coach - a great job benefit when your pants inseam is 43"!
My great grandfather - born 1860 - was 6’10", so I was actually disappointed when I topped out at 5’9". I desperately wanted to be tiny like my paternal grandmother, so that I might have a future as a gymnast. But when I topped her height at age 9, I wanted to be six feet tall like my other grandmother. That also didn’t happen.
Family lore and the emigration time line say that the tall germanic side of the family arrived in America because a grandmother didn’t want her little boy conscripted by the Germanic Friedrich who liked tall boys in his guard. On that side of the family, the men tended to +6.5 feet, and most of the women were at least 6 feet tall.
My husband is 6’10", and sleeps diagonally on our king-size bed.
Uncle Mike is about 6’7’’ or 6’8’’. Some of my other uncles are also quite tall, but he’s the tallest.
My nephew is 6’10". He trained to be a Nuclear Tech in the Navy…on submarines :smack:
Yeah, that didn’t last long.
His sister is 6’3", as is their mom; her husband (my b-i-law) is 6’7". My wife is 6’1" - I am 6’3" but suprisingly our kids are only tall, not supertall.
One of the CEOs I worked closely with was 6’6" - square jawed and smart, sideburns going gray - he looked like he was genetically bred to be a business leader. Fortunately he was good and a nice guy.
I’m 6’4" which certainly isn’t THAT tall in the grand scheme of things, but I’m usually the tallest person in a room.
Obviously, I encounter people a good deal taller than myself. Among friends and acquaintances, I have two or are taller. One is 6’7" and one is 6’8".
Sandy Allen used to be my neighbor. Poor woman spent most of her adult life in a wheelchair.
