How to access F12 Developer Tools

Apparently a webmail program I use for work isn’t compatible with IE10. A google search revealed that I need to fool the webmail into thinking I am using IE9. In order to do this I need to access press F12 and open the Developer Tools and change some options. Thing is that pressing the F12 key just switches my wifi on and off. Pressing Fn + F12 does nothing at all.

Any advice, computer savvy Dopers?

Under Tools there’s actually something that says “F12 Developer Tools”, but I’m thinking that’s not what you’re looking for.
I don’t use IE, so it’s going to take some poking around, but there’s a setting somewhere in there to trick it into pretending like it’s running a different version for exactly what you’re trying to do. Some websites/webmail etc just won’t run properly otherwise.

Okay, hitting F12 (or using that menu item) is the trick. When you do that something pops up at the bottom and then there’s a menu item on that new window that allows you to change which version IE is running in.

As far as toggling WiFi, that’s something with your laptop, I’d make sure you’re actually hitting the F12 button. Otherwise just use the menu button (under Tools).

Thank you for your advice about the Tools menu (& for going to the trouble of investigating for me  ). Since I posted I discovered that I needed to press Shift + F12 so I did manage to get to the Developer Tools and set it to fake IE9. The webmail page displayed properly, but when I would try to open or reply to an email it would open up in a new window but without displaying the message or allowing me to type a reply.

When I was doing my original googling I do remember seeing a comment somewhere about some bug or other, so I think I need to look into that.
Alternatively I will scrap IE10 and install IE9. That webmail is the only thing I use IE for, anyway.

It’s important to me because it’s the difference between being able to do some work in the comfort of my own home and dragging myself to the office…

Did you try Compatibility View?

Thank you Yoyodyne that did the trick!

And thank you **Joey P **for your advice and efforts!
