LIBERAL: (eg Ted Kennedy)=someone who would give you the shirt off someone ELSE’S back!
Conservative:
A person who substitutes lies and insults for political debate and think that it makes him appear intellignet.
Liberal:
A person who thinks intentions are more important than results and thinks anyone who disagrees with them is cruel if not evil.
Adult:
A person who decides questions upon individual merit and refuses to allow ideology to override rationality.
The best lack all conviction
The worst are full of passionate intensity.

It’s an obscure reference to capital gains taxes. The conservative viewpoint is generally that if we let you keep more of your money when you sell of capiatl, you’ll use it to buy new stuff and improve your business and the economy. The liberal view is generally that you’ll just use it buy yachts and diamond studded champagne.

But … but … but … but … but Bucky! What you originally said was:
… and if the equipment really were outdated, it would be worth less than what you originally paid for it, and selling it would give you a capital loss instead of a capital gain!
A hairsplitting nitpick, I know, but hey – capital gains usually occur with real estate and stock shares, not equipment.
Excellent sig/post combo, Spiritus.

(I love the second coming, anyway.)

Are you on crack?
Please tell me you are joking.
**I’m talking to you, Freedom, especially. **
Have you even read this thread? I only posted a friggin picture. You have to be joking, right? You can’t really be that sensitive.
Your rant against HCI for indulging in propaganda was right on target, but you show yourself as a hypocrit and a bs*** phony by supporting and disseminating propaganda yourself.**
What are you talking about? Are you considering that 3 dollar bill a propaganda piece? It really doesn’t compare to to the HCI stuff that was portrayed as fact.
Could you please link this thread to ONE place I threw around propaganda? Could you please show us ONE place where I posted a false fact.
**If you’re going to allow such rank propaganda in GD, **
Are you talking about the 3 dollar bill?
I have to know. I swear that I respect you more than to assume you posted this XXXX over that picture. What are you talking about?
If this is all over that picture, than I suggest you:
LIGHTEN UP
My sincere apologies, Freedom. You’ve certainly posted spirited pieces, but I absolutely retract my charge.
There are others here that I do get torqued up about, and rather than address my comments to them, I hit the closest target, which was you.
I hope you will regard my comment as a temporary error rather than as a permanent defect in my character.
No problem singledad.
I was completely confused by your post. I thought we had lost you to the loony bin.
No, I was just visiting. I don’t plan on checking in full time… just yet.
As a (fiscally) Conservative Civil Libertarian, I found both sides of this jokefest hilarious. And don’t slam me in the category of the Christian fundies; I get hives when I go near organized religion.
I swear, if some of you folks (on both sides!) don’t lighten up, there won’t be any body left to vote in the upcoming election: you’ll all have died of apoplexy.
I liked Freedom’s $3 bill with our current crook’s face on it; I could just as easily see Bush Sr.'s face on it, as well as several former and current Congresspeople (I loosely categorize them as people, as they have two arms, two legs, etc.,; any semblance to a real human meing ends there, though).

I’m no liberal; I term myself a radical, and sometimes I have more in common with dedicated zealous conservatives than with system-adoring liberals. Still…
In order to be a reactionary you have to believe that:
the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of morals rather than an inadequacy of disease defenses;
That doctors are the victims of trial lawyers more than they are the victims of hospital holding companies and insurance companies;
That a global warming trend of unknown origins is unworthy of serious attention because the fairy-tale explanations of its origins posed by liberal politicians seems to fail to hold any water;
That nuclear weapons in the hands of law breaking terrorists are less of a potential threat to our freedom than gun-control advocates;
That globally powerful businesses and the governments they elect are natural adversaries, or that smaller national businesses are victimized by government, not by larger globally-based businesses;
That the earning of self-esteem is accelerated by debasement;
That federal funding never encouraged or discouraged communication via artistic expression prior to grants being allocated via the National Endowment for the Arts;
That the NRA is politically coherent despite the fact that it does not advocate a private nuclear arsenal for each individual, yet derives its reason for existence from the interpretation of the right to bear arms that says such a right exists to enable us to resist our own government’s tyrannies;
That the quickest route to a functioning anarchy is to get rid of government services and the taxes that pay for them while retaining government support of property rights.
That the most troubling thing you can find in a public school that currently lacks meaningful sex education is a curriculum that includes exposure to “Heather Has Two Mommies”.
That historical categorical discriminations such as racism and sexism do not require redress because we can step directly into a category-blind state of equality, and that failures to so successfully step are best ignored rather than pursued via legal or administrative action.
That the currently illusory nature of the ‘White Christmas’ of which they sing is not worthy of nostalgic restorative sentiments, but repressive aspects of the 1950s are worthy of enshrinement.
That the unfettered system of money we learned when playing Parker Bros. “Monopoly” as kids is a sensible and socially responsible system for allocating resources;
That the leadership role of America is best exemplified on a world stage by entering into international conflict only when our immediate economic interests are at stake;
That an idiot who can’t keep his fucking zipper zipped is comparable to an obsessed power-hungry politician who broke the law to win a national election as president;
That we can afford to maintain a strong military without taxing or spending;
That the way to break the stranglehold of the NEA and the political bottlenecks of our educational system is to advocate a switch to the repressive parochial school system;
That the current range of alternatives to the public school system allow a parent to empower his or her child as an individual more than they could by leaving the child in the public schools; and that choosing one school over another is any meaningful way analogous to the right to choose whether or not to reproduce in the first place.
That environmentalists are not hikers, casual fishermen, backpackers, mountain climbers, and campers, but are instead east-coast city dwelling liberals;
That the money I have and the money you have is automatically and necessarily ours for righteous reasons and should not be shared for the common good.
That Bill Clinton did diddly-squat except as a result of the mentoring of the more-savvy Hillary Rodham Clinton, or that she is somehow not entitled to try her own hand at it now that she wants to do so;
That being a movie star makes you qualified to speak out on public policy;
That a handful of religious wackos, living in rural Texas, are not likely to plant bombs in major cities;
That the message of commercial messages –
“buy my product” – is somehow separable from the proven mechanisms for communicating such a message successfully, even though such mechanisms tend to exploit our sexual appetites; and that the mechanisms can be criticized without reference to the underlying impetus to sell and profit at all costs.
