Well, some people do write letters to their friends, you know. Personally, I think letters are much nicer than e-mails, and cheaper than a long-distance call.
What’s the tone of the letter? Is it formal, casual, sarcastic, conciliatory, regretful, sad, hopeful??
Personally, I always liked how a former poster here would always sign off:
“Yer pal, Satan.”
But it works best for angry or funny posts.
If this person meant a lot to you, I’d go ahead and sign it, “Love.” Because love doesn’t end the second a relationship does.
I disagree with PunditLisa’s last bit of advice.
See, when my ex and I broke up, everything was cool. Then he started using “Love.” That made me feel kind of bad–if you “love” me, then why did you break up with me…that kind of thing. It really signified that our relationship (we were friends before) would never be the same again. Kinda sucky, IMHO.
I sign stuff to my ex-boyfriend with:
~ Monica
Chief Crunch That was one of the funniest things I’ve ever read on this board. thanks man.
(couldn’t get the quote to work for some reason so you’ll just have to scroll up I guess)
Welcome to Dumpsville!
Population: You.
You could take the pathetic and tearful tone I took when dumped when I was 19:
“I know you have to do what you have to do. It hurts me so badly that you have to go, but I want you to be free. But remember, I’ll always be there for you. Any time, just call, and I’ll be there.”
Then when she got back in touch 2 months later and said she wanted to see me again, I went:
“Go and fuck yourself.”
I wish I could take the credit, but it’s part of an overly melodramatic swan song by a former SA Forum poster, except, instead of “ex-girlfriend” it was written to Rich Kyanka, the admin of the forums and creator of Something Awful
