I’ve cut my own hair for at least a decade. Used to be 1/4" all over, nowadays I go with 1/2" on the sides, back and top and 3/4" in front. Easy, cheap and I like it better than anything I used to get from a barber.
Since I was about fifteen I’ve averaged one haircut every three years or so. Each of those was a donation to Locks of Love. My hair grows fairly fast, so I’ve been able to donate anywhere from 12-20" each time. It’s by far my preferred method of haircut.
Enjoy,
Steven
I’ve gotten a military style cut for years. No. 3 on top and No. 2 on the back and sides. I finally realized that I could do it myself quicker and as often as I wished. A good set of Wahl clippers and I was in business. I now cut it every week and a half or so and jump in the shower afterwards.
Never having to wait at Custom Cuts and pay $18 for the privilege is great.
In college, one of my best friends would do his own hair with clippers. The only thing he couldn’t do was the bottom edge in the back. He asked me to do it once, the night before he went to a co-op interview (he’s an engineer).
There was an… unfortunate breakdown in communications.
Me: So, do you want it straight across the back, or kind of curved, like to match the sides…
Him: Straight across.
Me: Straight across? Are you sure?
Him: Yes, straight.
See, what I meant was, “Do you want me to cut it straight across, starting where the hairline starts to taper?” And what he meant was, “Cut it straight across, on the bottom, after where it starts to taper.” :smack:
To top it all off, I didn’t realize that one of the teeth on the clippers was a little jagged from where it had broken off. So my poor friend ended up not only with hair that didn’t extend quite as far down as it should, but scratches all over the back of his neck, too.
Like I said, he asked me to help once.
