Poll: Who cuts their own hair?

I was cutting my hair the other night and was curious - how many people cut their own hair and what style do they have?
Mine’s a grade 3 all over so it’s not exactly hard.

Me! With a Mach 3 razor!

Bald is beautiful, baby!

Ocassionally, under the influence of a couple Margaritas. Just a little off the top and my bangs. I haven’t done it in a while. It’s pretty risky!

Have to! Either that or pay some jerk to charge me $11 (Canadian) to give me a friggin’ buzz cut!!

I do, but I only need to cut an inch off the bottom three times a year.
Thats it.
What styl?
just long and straight.

I’ve only had a professional haircut twice in my life. My mom cut it when I was little, and then I said, “I can do it myself!” Heh. My hair’s really thick, so it needs layers or it’s ridiculously poofy and weird and triangle shaped. So I learned to do layers. RIght now it’s shoulder-length and choppily and unevenly layered. But that’s what I was goin for. Usually I just let it grow til it gets almost too long for one box of hair dye, then cut it a little.

I do. Buzz cut to 1/4 inch every week or 10 days. Woot!

I do. I realized I was shelling out cash I could use for other things for haircuts that no one ever noticed. My hair’s very long, with some long layers in the front. Every six weeks or so I comb it straight after I shower, and do exactly what I watched my various stylists do for years-- pull equal sections from both sides of my head and trim.

Lately, too, I’m trying to let my hair grow even longer and I’m only trimming off a tiny bit each time. I’d hate to pay NYC prices for that!

I do…I have a long brush cut. It’s a couple inches long on top, spiked up, and tapers down really short on the sides and back. It’s thick and grows INCREDIBLY fast. To keep it looking good, It’s needs a trim every 2-3 weeks, and I’m not willing to shell out 25 bucks each time to get a decent cut, so I just do it myself.

Tooting my own horn, I actually do a heckuva good job on it. Except for the time that the guard fell off the clippers and I shaved a bald strip on the back of my head. Now I’m more careful.

Nope. Same guy has cut my hair for 15+ years. I’ve actually got a taxi across the city just to go to the same place.

For basic trimming (the “get rid of those $#)( splt ends” kind of stuff), I’ll do it myself, using my Leatherman pocket knife.

If I’m going for something new and different, I’ll have someone else do it. As a college student I get a discount at one of the local haircut places so it’s not like I’m paying $20. (More like $8 or so.) Money well spent in this case.

I don’t cut my own hair, but I would if I could stand behind myself. Of course if I could stand behind myself I’d be rollin’ in the dough from the Freak Show circuit, so maybe I’d pay someone after all.

But I do cut both the boys’ hair. And the Little Woman’s on occasion. Plus the dogs.

I’m a hair-cuttin’ fool.

I used to cut mine with a razor cutter - just sorta by feel. I wore it short and layered back in those days, so it worked.

Right now, it’s just past shoulder length, and I’m sick of it - it’s so fine and straight, it’s completely unflattering. I actually thought of doing it myself, but I think I’ll shell out a few bucks to get it cut. I’ve been looking at photos for ideas, but none of the models have a face shape even close to mine. So the cut that looks so flattering in the magazine would likely look hideous on me.

Stupid hair.

I almost always cut my own hair. Usually whenever I’m irritable about something, or 1/2 hour before something important.

It’s sort of a layered all over style, above shoulder length in back, bangs, tapered in front. I’m not happy with it, because the last time I let someone cut it, she did a crappy job, and I had to recut it to get it evened up, and then it was too short on the sides.

I’m with FCM. Stupid, stupid hair. Wish I could just shave it.

I do. The Amazing Patented Six-Pack HaircutTM has served me well for over 6 years now. It’s short on the sides, and long on top, but blended inbetween so I don’t look like a freak. My co-worker calls it the “forties businessman cut”. I kinda agree, if you watch old black and white movies, a lot of the guys have my cut. I do it strictly by feel (It helps that I have a large ocipital bone) My sole attempt at The amazing patented Twelve-Pack HaircutTM ended poorly. It was fixed easily enough, 1 on the sides, 3 on top.

I’ve cut my hair for years. My Mom always cut hers, too. I will go and have it done once every year or so, but then I do the maintainence. I figure, why pay some else to screw it up when I can do it myself for free?

My hair is usually collar/shoulder length, layered and with bangs. I’ll let the back grow out sometimes, but I always keep the hair out of my eyes. I’ve done hubby’s hair for over 30 years and always did the kids when they were at home. I just watched what the barber did and learned to cut hair by example.

Amen. My wife says the same thing. Although, I haven’t tried the Mach 3 yet.

In any case, I haven’t paid for a haircut since 1991.

One word: FlowBee.

Or is that two words squished together? Either way, I haven’t had to let anyone come near my head with a pair of scissors in about ten years. My dogs love it too.

I’ve been cutting my own hair for almost 20 years now, since college. My hair is fairly curly, and barbers were always trying to cut off the curls. As if that works. So I’ve found that I do a better job for myself. I use scissors and basically just hack at it in front of a mirror. I keep it about 2-3 inches long all around. Don’t even need to brush or comb it in the morning, just kind of run a hand through it after the shower. Very easy.

I’ve been known to cut my bangs when I had them.

Last night, however, I finally got sick of waiting to be able to make an appointment to get my hair cut, (it was just at the bottom of my shoulders), grabbed a hank in each hand, and cut off about two inches with my sewing scissors.

Now it just brushes my collar bone. Of course, I’ll need my stylist to even it out some, and I wouldn’t do this normally, but I was desparate.
