How to cut your man's hair - Your household can use the cash!

Take the plunge!

That’s a nice video, but it really isn’t that easy. What they missed from the “things you’ll need” list is a man who’s willing to walk around with a lousy cut for a few months while you get the hang of cutting it.

That said, a cut that can be done completely with clippers is totally worth doing yourself. I know men who give themselves clipper hair cuts. I’ve been cutting my husband’s hair since we got married. Number 3 guide all over the head. Trim the neck and side burns. Get my kiss. My boys get cuts with a number 4 and a number 5. I do save hundreds of dollars a year with my trusty Wahl clippers.

I cut my husband’s hair. He’s had short hair and long hair - I’ve cut both. It really is that simple. Do trims only until you’ve got the hang of it. If you are just taking a 1/4 off all over, there will be plenty left to get a hairstylist to fix if he doesn’t like it.
Bonus - if you’re only cutting off 1/4 inch all over, then it needs trimmed a lot more often and you get more experience, quickly.

I’ve never watched a video or anything, but I always cut my husband’s hair. (Daughters, too.) A year or so after we got married, his folks gave us a clipper set, and since he was tired of having to explain his hair* to a new person every couple of months, I started doing it. I always give him the same cut, and he’s always happy. I don’t use the clipper guides, they are too short, so I do it by hand. I must have saved us tons of money by now.
*He has the thickest hair, for a white guy, that I know of. There are 3 or 4 hairs sprouting out of every follicle. It’s also very wavy and can really only handle one style–it turns into helmet hair very easily. So he would go in there, and the stylist would spend the whole time exclaiming over his hair, and then the clippers would jam because you have to go slow, and they never got the cut like he wanted, and it was just boring.

My wife cut my hair last January for the first time. She took it all …

RUN AWAY!!!

Did anyone else find that video a little bit…off. The general attitude seemed to be that cutting your man’s hair was just one more step towards your goal of taking control of his life.

Why watch a video when you can simply join the Army? That’s where I learned to cut hair- my own my fellow soldier’s. The only challenge is using scissors on the top. I can’t do that easily, so I usually just remove my scalp, cut the hair, and sew the scalp back on. Messy, yeah, but it gets the job done.

Nothing “off” about that. Par for the course, frankly. Suggestion #2958 in an infinity part series of ways to keep your boyfriend away from other women.

Meh!!! nothing to it I have been cutting my own hair for years No 2 on top No1 back and sides. Roped almost all my GFs into shaving the ‘furry’ bits off the back of my neck…

At my age however with odd bits of hair sprouting all over this is the technique I need to get them to master

I’ve been cutting my husband’s hair for years (he’s military, and has to get it cut every 2 weeks or so), and three years ago started cutting my own, too. I’ve got long, straight hair, and use these instructions to do my own. I just use cheap sewing scissors on mine, and it looks quite nice, if I do say so.

My SO and I have been cutting each others hair for over 20 years…granted, there isn’t a lot to cut, but that is exactly why we bought (and have been buying) good clippers for all those year.
If you like your hair short, and just basically need it uniformly the same length, then it is pretty easy to master after a short time.

We used to go to a hair salon, but when the prices started going up for a simple haircut to over $20 (in West Hollywood, CA) for the little hair we had, that was it…bought the clippers and it has paid off over the long run - big time.

No one has mentioned the Flowbee yet?

Meh. My husband’s hair cut/colour costs more than mine. But our lovely hairdresser does cut and colour it with reference to my tastes. I like it much better than the awful messes I made when we were broke and I cut it for him.

I earn more per hour than my barber.

My hair costs less than $100/year. Waste of time.

I have to get my hair cut every three weeks. It explodes out of my head. You can almost see it grow. It’s like that Play-Doh barber set.

This sounds like a good idea, to be honest. We’d save money even if we bought a really good pair of barber’s scissors.

Well, the video guy’s hair looks better than my husband’s after he goes to Great Clips. I’ve often told him that I could do a better job than those butchers.

If you really want to save money, go without haircuts. Works for my family.

I cut my (now ex) husband’s hair exactly once. He went outside and cried afterward. It was really bad, and I’ll never try it again.

I usually do my son’s hair. Easy enough, I bought a set of Remington clippers which have done me well. A longer guard for the top, shorter for around the ears and back and trim with the scissors to catch any strays and he’s good to go. Not really any different from what great clips would do.

My own hair, I have a best friend who is a hair stylist so she does my hair for me for a fraction of the cost at a salon and in my own home. I return the favour by helping her colour her hair, though I’m not allowed to cut as I never got that far in training before deciding cosmetology wasn’t for me.
