how to get rid of Carbonite

I made the mistake of downloading this, as it is the “cloud” that my husband uses at work. I decided I didn’t want it, and now I can’t get it off my computer and I think it is interfering with how it works.

I tried to use the “uninstall” which just hung, so I deleted everything I could find that said Carbonite on the computer. The lock icon is still at the top of the screen, and when I go to put the computer in sleep or shut down, it takes an awful long time.

This is a MacBook running OS X 10.5.8. How do I get rid of whatever the last vestiges of this are?

Thanks for any help!

I think it comes with a keypad to deactivate it.

Really bad quality, but following these instructions might do the trick.

Good luck.

Gee thanks …

I did a quick google search for ‘uninstalling carbonite’.

It looks like there are uninstallation instructions for the Mac here

The problem is that it appears you have to start the program and go into the ‘preference pane’ to find the uninstall option. I didn’t click on it but there is a link halfway down the page with manual uninstall instructions.

What you might consider doing is to reinstall Carbonite and get it working well enough to use it’s own uninstall option.

Can’t you use something like this Download IObit Uninstaller 12 Free - 100% Free Uninstall Programs & Plugins or this Wise Program Uninstaller - Uninstall, Remove or Force Uninstall Programs Completely

The manual instructions worked - thank you! I don’t know why I didn’t think to Google it, I guess I just think of the Dope first.

I’m a little leery of downloading things right now for some reason …

As long as you got your answer. Glad to help.
