How to get rid of the cookie button on the bottom left corner of the screen?

No, that was my earlier guess and it was wrong. I verified the cookies are saved in local storage.

The cookie button is working as intended; its intention is support cookie preference compliance with minimal effort.

Yup. It’s just that what was intended was stupid.

I wouldn’t say stupid. Its intention is to allow any page to be compliant with no more effort than including a script. But it also supports a good UX with some effort.

Discourse doesn’t have a footer section to blindly squirrel away the button; the best it can do it plop the button in the corner.

Sorry, but I don’t remember the site. But I went to a site in the last week that had a huge cookie, same as the one currently at the bottom left corner of my screen, but bigger, in the middle of my mobile screen. I selected something, confirmed, and the entire cookie just disappeared.

Quite nice for something to actually behave as one would expect. And it reminded me of this thread which is still going on, because the cookie’s still there.
