Just looking for ideas here. The layout of my living room is a little odd and there is about 3’ of wall-space that extends down from the ceiling directly over a staircase. I had an idea to put some type of art there to make it a little more visually interesting, but I’d need a stable platform set up over the stairs in order to reach the wall. How could I make this happen?
On YouTube I saw a method using two ladders and a thick plank of wood extended between them… but other than that, I don’t know how it would be possible.
Go to a rental store and tell them what you’re doing. There is scaffolding expecially made to use on steps that would be safer, or special ladder configurations. Don’t put a piece of wood between 2 ladders please.
Any DIY site has plans for building a stable platform that can be used for situations like this. If it’s only going to happen once, see a rental place like DGH suggests.
If the stairs are going up away from the wall (ie you look at the wall on the way down) I would think one sturdy ladder would suffice, wedged between the wall and stairs. In the opposite configuration do as DummyGladHands suggests and get a little scaffold system.
