How to hide comments on Facebook timeline?

I recently got switched over to the timeline view on FB. I’d like to be able to hide comments I make on other people’s pages from my own timeline, but it doesn’t seem to work.

There’s a little grey circle next to the comment, which, when I hover over it, says “Allowed on Timeline”. Googling suggests that if I click on that circle I will be able to choose “Hide from Timeline”, which would make sense, but in fact the only option when I click on it is “Delete comment”, which removes the comment from the page I posted it on as well as from my timeline.

So, is this possible? If not, who thought displaying my comments to everyone or no-one, with no fine-tuning permissible, would be good for FB’s share price?

Try looking at it from your Timeline. Mine has an option to hide that particular comment or All Recent Activity from the Timeline.

Hmm I have the opposite problem. I want comments to show, but they don’t. I can see them on “All Activity” with the same grey circle and the same “allowed on timeline”.

That’s where I was looking at it. The grey circle is there but the only option is “Delete comment”.

I did some searching, and found 2 possible solutions:

This one seems outdated, and I can’t open this page on my computer (but I can open it on my phone…)

Are your comments showing up in the “recent activity” box, or as individual updates, like your status updates?

Has more comprehensive instructions. I think I hid my comments before Timeline, as a result now I both can’t see my comments, yet they’re not considered hidden by Timeline.
