How to host a petition

Backstory ahead:
I’m a Scoutmaster dealing with the fallout of the recent “agreement” that Scouting America (nee Boy Scouts of America) came to with Pete Hegseth. Many parents and other leaders in my area are furious, and want to send a message to the big wigs in Scouting.

One of my colleagues is drafting a statement for all of us affirming our commitment to the ideals of scouting, not Pete Hegseth’s ideals, and a commitment to cease all voluntary donations (a HUGE portion of Scouting’s revenue) until they reverse this appeasement of the current administration.

Backstory ended:
What’s a good way to get a petition around these days?

Technically, we’re looking for people who are personally involved in Scouting to sign their name to this commitment, not random email addresses. We want the executives to see Troop after Troop, Scoutmasters and Leaders, committing to choking them off of revenue until they right the ship.

We have contacts lists and such, but have no idea what to host it on other than Google Forms, which seems pretty sketchy on the surface. What platforms are popular these days?

Change.org?

Or Action Network: Petitions - Action Network

FWIW though I’ve never seen a petition accomplish anything at all. You’d probably have to convince parents to pull their kids out of Scouting to have any meaningful impact.

I’m with you.

I think for something like this to be effective it can’t be thousands of random names on a page, it has to be a collective communication effort from the people the organization depends on, to the organization itself.

No “Friends of Scouting” fundraisers, no golf outings, no rubber chicken dinners with the local sportsball hero, no popcorn sales. That’s something concrete people can do without upending their participation in what they feel is still a fine program. Us local yokels can make hay with our Council, who will pass their troubles up to National.

Thanks for the links, I’ll check them out, see if they offer options that we can use.
