How to restore normal Internet browsing if a network connection is OK?

I’m helping a friend who can’t see web pages anymore in her browser.

She attempted to install a Norton Anti-virus upgrade, and when it failed, removed all evidence of Norton thru the “Add & Remove Programs” CP function, then rebooted.

Now the wireless card can connect to the local network just fine, but browsing (IE or Firefox) or use of Outlook Express acts like there is no connection (“page cannot be found”). So it looks like Norton hosed something either on the way in or the way out. Grrr.

So what can I do to restore the browser functionality? I doubt she has any restore disks from the laptop manufacturer. Is there an easy way?
