Oh my God. Who knew filing taxes was so difficult? I’ve been trying to make sense of the US-Korea tax treaty for half an hour now - I feel like the people who wrote it were deliberately trying to make things as difficult as possible. Grumble.
Oooh, ooh, OOOH! Their triple-ginger snaps are awesome! And they have cans of lump crab in the refrigerated section that make great crab cakes. Or crab-stuffed fillets of sole or haddock or whatever. Get some for me while you’re there!
Home. Yanno, it’s so wrong when the dog’s dental bill is bigger than your own. They had to pull one tooth, and we’ve got drugs to give her for a week. She’s very happy to be home. Bernie is not impressed. Taz doesn’t care - he owns the place anyway.
Oh, and it’s snowing like crazy out there. The streets are just wet, but the unpaved areas are white. And the temp is hovering near freezing. Wonder if we’ll get a late start tomorrow?? <fingers crossed>
Ha ha ha ha ha! I swear, not ten minutes before I read this post I ate a cupcake.
So I see Noonie finally decides to appear AFTER I take off for a couple of hours.
So where’s rosie, anyways?
I’m here in TVLand for the evening. Did you ever notice how sometimes your SO is so much easier to love when either their mouth is shut or they are sleeping peacefully?
Seriously, though, some guy that TVMan knows and that I met once through his political circles found out recently that his wife was cheating on him. Apparently he shot and killed her and then hung himself. They leave behind two grown children. What a terrible tragedy. TVMan was quite upset and wanted to start smoking again. Fortunately, he hasn’t. I’m working on other ways to occupy his time. It’s just startling to find out that someone that you know would do such a thing.
Tonight is the night that I bid my lovely little laptop farewell for awhile. I’m taking back to Best Buy and they’ll have to ship it off to Kentucky for repair. The last time that this happened it took about 1 1/2 months! Like TVMan said, they already got my money when I purchased the extended warranty. They don’t have to be in any kind of hurry to fix it.
I think that’s all. TVMan is napping for now and I’m going to wake him up in a little bit so that we can head out to Best Buy and to find dinner.
Almost forgot to add: Did you ever get the email for the next Netflix movie being shipped out and wonder what on earth you were thinking when you picked it out?? That’s me for my next pick, “The Day After Tomorrow.”
ETA: Hey! There’s rosie… Right down there!
I trust you, and Morgan is an uber kee-yoot kitty.
eta - you ould always take a video and post it on YouTube…
I am back. Well, I have news.
-
It was NOT from 1-5; it was from 12-4. So I got out early, but arrived late.
-
It was NOT multicultural sensitivity awareness training; it was “care teams”.–if anything, more vague and nebulous.
-
The “facilitator” (who seems like a very nice woman) said that this was her 7th straight session, so she was tired and not on her game.
-
As usual, many folks took the time provided for productive problem solving to bitch about the current state of things.
-
IOW, it was boring as hell. And hot. It was in the solarium and had plenty of heat gain. No water provided.
-
2 cool videos: one on paradigm shifts and the other about the “road to Abilene”. Both very good business motivation/human behavior vids. They were last on the agenda.
-
I still have no concrete idea of what they want a “care team” to look and act like, but this is status quo for my place of work.
Oops, you caught me. They’ve* got the internet blocker working again, so no more daytime posts (until the next upgrade - heh - shouldn’t be too long now)
- “they” being the evil Suits who think we’ll be less productive, or worse, surf porn sites, if we have easy access to the interwebs
Is a care team, like, composed of Care Bears?
Mahna, the kitty is cuuuuuuuuute!
I’ve given up on the taxes today. I had to send out an email to the international office at UChicago begging for help. Ah well; still got time til April.
<cautiously> I don’t think so. While I saw one Latino nurse, one white nurse (that was me), one Nigerian nurse, one Filipino nurse, and any number of Latino and African-American nurses and CNAs, I didn’t see any baby blue or pink people there. No one had a heart on their tummys–at least not ones visible. One woman was wearing a stupid looking hat–JJ Walker lives. Other than that, nothing.
(of course this whole care team thing is going to be implemented on the floors, not in the specialty units where I used to work and not in the area where I work now, so it was a complete waste of time for me to attend this, but I do get paid for what was essentially a 3 hour sauna treatment. It was that hot.)
I made Ramen noodles for #2 son for dinner. I think I’ll settle with a quick read and do nothing for the rest of the night. And drink water-lots of it…
Many people I work with have seen the “Road to Abilene” multiple times. I’ve missed out every time. I wonder how much time and money is wasted annually on the types of seminars that don’t benefit anyone? We’ve had some very good ones, but others have made me want to quietly leave.
beebs - I’m very proud that you were first to post. ::Pats head::
Glad Nat had fun shopping, LiLi.
I still feel like I’m catching The Sick. Feels like allergies, but I’m running a little bit of a fever and feeling kind of icky.
I’ve got work to do for a meeting Saturday morning, but I think I’ll be napping first.
Back after a bit.
GT
I just took a break to eat some dinner and enjoy our beyootiful snow. We got a good 2", not a lot by normal people standards, but plenty for around here. Best part of it? I don’t have to go anywhere in it! When the first flakes started falling this morning, I dashed to the store for milk – already had plenty of bread and TP on hand – and since then have been enjoying looking at the snow through the window.
And Papa Tigs doesn’t care if it’s snowing because he’s in Orlando. He’s planning to watch the Disney World fireworks tonight from his hotel room. Seriously, his room is on the 12th floor looking right down on the park. Some people have such rough business travel.
Progress is being made on my insanely long 3-day deposition, but not enough. Oh well, all I can do is all I can do, right? At least the attorney who objects constantly uses the same phrases every time so I’ve made macros for all of them.
Cutie, The Day After Tomorrow is hilarious! Laugh your ass off at it, that’s what it deserves! But the special effects are fun. If you’re in the mood to rot your brains watching something utterly worthless, it’s perfect mindless entertainment.
I have two sad puppies. They miss their Papa already. I just hope Rusty remembers in the morning that he enjoys playing in the snow – this evening he was too busy sulking to notice. Stoopid dog.
Back to Jeopardy. What’s important?
ETA: Being first on the page! That’s what’s important! Woo!
I think I’m too old for these kinds of seminars. I can predict what is coming out of the facilitator’s mouth before she says it. Frankly, they could have just showed the 2 videos and that would have sufficed for me. I GET IT, ALREADY!
Am gonna watch the lunar eclipse in a bit. I’m all atwitter!
mmmmm… just got out of a warm, long, soaking bath. I had the loveliest scented bubbles and a good book to read (A Wrinkle in Time, my daughter just finished it and I felt like hanging out with an old friend).
Now I’m warm and smell really good, and am kinda drowsy. Gotta stay awake for the eclipse…
I think The Plague is finally over- three weeks of feeling horrible and I am finally feeling better- just a little tired. It could be the bath though…
mmmmm…
Well, you only have to stay awake for the next 21 minutes. I doubt I’ll watch the whole thing (takes a couple of hours).
I had SUCH a crush on Calvin when I was Wrinkle in Time age.
I thought it started at 10pm Eastern Time- I’ll have to double check. Wait- peeking out the window, could there be the littlest bit of a shadow?
I always loved books that were about strong loving families (being somewhat denied one myself…). I loved that book because I identified with Calvin- I always wanted to fall into an amazing family.
The oldest child is impatiently awaiting the eclipse. It’ll be her first. I set my alarm for the last one. I remember my mom calling from work to make sure I had gotten up, and everyone at her work thought it was quite weird that I would do such a thing.
Bah.
I hope the lake effect machine calms down enough for us to see the thing though.
I had a GREAT day!
I went thrifting and found some great ‘vintage’ (seriously, I can’t call them truly vintage they’re from the 50’s and 60’s! I think of vintage as 20’s through 40’s) sheets and pillowcases, some melamine mugs that the Little Guy has claimed for himself. Though to give him credit, he saw them first. And an awesome Anchor Hocking baking dish, and three dessert plates with a funky pattern. Kitchey, but I love it. Spent less than twenty bucks all told, and pretty proud of it. Jim was only somewhat impressed with my stash. He doesn’t ‘get’ the sheets. I tell him, I get them for about a buck each, now go to Wal-Mart or wherever, and you can’t even get close to that quality for that kind of money. These are the sheets that are cool in the summer and the winter! Bliss!
Completed day two of jury duty. I’m a juror on a trial that is expected to last three weeks. We spent ALL day yesterday in voire dire and part of this morning. I was hoping I wouldn’t get stuck on this trial, but alas, it appears I am.
Obviously, I can’t talk about it.
Other than that, nothing new is going on.
Oh, as of this morning, I’d lost twelve pounds. I noticed that the clothes I wore today were much looser.
oh! “voire dire”! (not that I know what that means, but it makes at least a little more sense seeing it spelled out (in french) than what Joe Pesci said in “My Cousin Vinny”)
eta
when Pesci said it, it souinded like “wah-dia” and I could not for the life of me figure out what the heck he was saying.
Voire dire is the process they use to select jurors. This is where each of the attorneys ask the potential jurors questions about themselves, and their views on certain things. They ask about our understanding of the judicial system proceedings, and of course, we’re told what the defendent (this is a criminal trial) is accused of and all the charges.
There were 45 of us in the pool. Twelve jurors, plus two additional alternates were chosen today. Of course, we don’t know which of us are alternates. We won’t know until it’s time for deliberation.
Why it took all day yesterday and part of today is beyond me. I’ve never sat through such a long process. Usually it takes about half a day, at MOST.
That makes sense - the literal translation is “to see, to say”.
