How to throw a party! - A 12-step MMP

I am so tired of winter.

Spring doesn’t spring that quickly up here in the frozen north…

<looks out at the 2 inches of snow that fell last night>

We’ve got the seeds etc in the stores, though.

Evening all. A good afternoon was had by all during our visit to my friend’s house - HRH ate cheese and biscuits and cookies as well as her dinner. She played with the puppies and charmed everyone with her singing (well, babbling would probably be a more accurate description) and dancing (or bouncing, if you must!). We came home, she washed it all down with some milk and is now fast asleep.

I had a very weird dream the other night, of which I now remember nothing, except one word that stayed with me after I woke up - Aconcagua, which is apparently a mountain in South America. Weird!!!

Still suffering with strong winds here, with appreciable sand drifts in some open areas (makes driving difficult) and the temperature has dropped again. It’s about 55°F/13°C now, but the wind chill makes it feel a whole lot colder! I actually had to wear a sweater and put on shoes and socks today, rather than the open-toe slides I had dragged back out of the cupboard last week! ::snerk:: 2 inches of snow! :stuck_out_tongue:

Once again,
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I was supposed to be in Manhattan at noon.
Now it’s pushed out to 3:00.
Snow is not my friend today.

{{McUne}} and {{Taters}}. You guys know we’re always here for you, even if we don’t know why you need hugs. Because we’re nice, dammit!

We have a nice layer of ice forming on the ground. Thus far, the temp is hovering right at freezing so the trees, power lines, etc. are still not ice-coated, but all it will take is a one degree drop and it’s gonna be nasty. Not that it isn’t already, mind you, but then it might be power-outage-nasty, which I really don’t want to have to deal with considering the amount of work on my plate. At least I’m prepared with lots of water for both drinking and toilet-flushing should the power go out and the well stop working. Grr.

And speaking of grr: Stoopit dog Rusty, got all upset by the front coming through last night and managed to not only keep me up well past when I wanted to go to bed, but even when he woke up up again JUST as I’d dropped off to sleep, forcing me to crawl out of my lovely warm bed to give him one of his Super Heavy Duty Drug-Him-Up pillss, managed to continue to lie outside my bedroom door and whimper and whistle until well past 4:00 this morning. :frowning: So I am tired and cranky and definitely feeling less than wonderful today. Stoopit dog. :frowning:

Back to work. They had the nerve to ask me about the progress of this insanely under-estimated, over-long job this morning, like anyone from the government agency that wants the deposition is going to be at work today to care in any case. You’d think a court reporting firm could learn to estimate the number of pages expected in a job – if nothing else, base it on 50 pages per hour of testimony and you’re not far off. This one apparently they based it on half that. Idiots. :frowning:

I’ll go away and stop being cranky all over the MMP. Wish me luck that the power stays on today!!

{{{Taters & McUne}}}

Fingers crossed for the power to stay on for you Mama Tigs. Sorry for the dog-induced lack of sleep. The cat climbed over me a couple times last night and I considered tossing her out of the bedroom and closing the door. But I was just too tired to bother. I probably should have because she knocked my glass of water off the night stand sometime during the night so there was a nice puddle on the floor this morning.

No spring here for another couple months. We got up to ~15 degrees yesterday though and may hit 30 over the weekend! So I guess that’s some progress.

The thing about this winter is that’s been so extreme. One day it’s 73 below zero with wind chills beyond belief. Two days later it’s 30 degrees, but we get 19 feet of snow. Then it turns 48 degrees, and all the snow melts. The next day it starts to rain, then gets colder so it’s ice, THEN turns to snow so there’s 6 inches of snow on top of a sheet of ice. And before you can get it all cleared away, the below zero weather comes back.

And so on.

Snow is not fun when it gets in your way… :frowning:

For us- kids are on break, my college is closed today and hubby had already decided to take the day.

Wheee! Snow!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

I know I’m odd, but I love winter weather!

My surest sign of spring?

Lots of dead ‘coons, possum’ and other critters laying by the road. Once they start to venture out all groggy from winter and wander into traffic, I know spring has sprung.
Pretty bad I know, but it’s true.

It’s Firday! Off to shopping now.

More hugs for Taters and McUne.

My Dad just had his physical, and he’s lost fifteen pounds this year. Which would be great, except he’s a tiny little old Asian guy who didn’t have fifteen extra pounds. So he’s been scolded by the doctor. Mum says he’s been on a salad kick for months- you know, salad is low calories and low calorie is good, right?

Well, if you need to lose or maintain weight, it’s fine.

I’m going to buy him a pound of butter. He needs to put on weight. He can have some of mine.
Thanks for the compliments. I think Nat is now about twelve pounds… oops, kid’s calling.

There is a message on our answering machine. Guess who it is from? “I waaaaaaaaant to go hooooomeeeee.”

Forget the cancer. I am going to kill her.

I LOVE butter, send me some too. Seriously, when my cholesterol results came back normal/really good and I expressed mild amazement, one of the things I told Doc Beth was that I a butter fiend. She gave me that look, you know that over the glasses doctor look?

How bad? I keep soft butter out in a dish on the counter. I’ll grab a breadstick, and just drag it through before I eat it.

I’ll warm up a flour tortilla just to smear some butter on it.

2/3 of a stick of melted butter in a bowl of hot popcorn.

I need my own personal cow.

Woo! Snow! We haven’t gotten any for a couple of weeks. I was beginning to worry.

{{{{{Anybody who needs it}}}}}

TGIF. I’m not sure where the day went so quickly… all I know is that it’s 2:30pm and I’m only just now having a bite to eat. Yikes! Good thing I brought my lunch today, or else I’d have resorted to eating McD’s to deal with the rumbly in my tumbly rather than deal with a 15 min walk to something healthy.

Also, I’m going to yoga tonight. You should all be very very proud of me.

Taters & McUne, hope things get better for you.

FOX!!

There’s a fox outside our windows here at work! It’s just sitting on the hill that overlooks our building. It’s sunny out so he’s probably soaking up the sun. It’s so cool!

What’s not cool is that Someone decided that the brand-new, just-delivered box spring that we got for the guest room is the perfect scratching post. In under a week, one whole corner is ripped up. GRRRRRR. Someone is on The List. I’m thinking fox food.

My signs of spring -
Cadbury Cream Eggs on the shelf
daylight still visible when I leave work
5 times as much cat hair everywhere

I remember a 3 panel cartoon - panel one: cat walks into and stands in a livingroom where its humans are seated.
panel two: in one poof, all its hair flies off in an starburst pattern.
panel three: one human says, as cat walks out of room, “must be spring”
Still snowed in. I hate snow when I need to get somewhere. Now the temps so the layers of light fluffy have turned to heavy dense.

Octalcode, from where are you starting?

{{{{{{{hugs to all}}}}}}

I was working on my grocery list while I was at home for lunch. I’m reviewing it at work now so that I can go to the store on my way home from work. Apparently, I got distracted while working on the list at home: the last item on the list is “sm.”

Just got back from taking Complicated Roommate to the po’ folks clinic. I was going to go out drinkin’ this afternoon, but I have Hit The Social Limit. I’m gonna curl up and play Roller Coaster Tycoon and maybe watch All About Eve.

And I have to work this weekend and the next. gnaws on things

Howdy everyone! I finally got a few minutes to catch up and post. First: Yay for Firday!

Taxi, smoked salmon?, small head of lettuce? smelly cheese? Foxes are very cool critters.

You can have a few hundred tons of mine. The banks are so tall I can’t safely see to pull out of my driveway. I don’t see any signs of pending spring yet. I think it’ll be a while (understatement).

Spaz, nice hair. I’ve always been a sucker for a redhead.

{{{{Taters}}}} I see that rigs has already said pretty much what I was going to, so I’ll just say “yeah, what she said”

{{{{McUne}}}} Just because. There will be someone here to listen anytime you need a hug or to vent, whatever you need. Oh, and Thunderboner?<SNERK>
