How to throw a party! - A 12-step MMP

It appears that I’ll be here, in my office for the better part of the day!! This hasn’t happened on a consistent basis in at least 3 months. I’m almost looking forward to a day of dealing with union farts, and rebellious employees.

Ahhhh.

If I ever have to throw a party in Akron, I promise to book you. Do you mind customers whose idea of fried chicken doesn’t include batter? Is fried anything a repulsive thing to ask for? Do you do barbecue? I can’t barbecue to save my life but I love it.

Is “olive oil only” a repulsive thing to ask for?

Morning.

The exercise plan sounds intense, Taters! Don’t overdo it! Better to use it to destress than to have it add more stress to your life right now!

Welcome back donkeybear! Good luck with the pharmacy school interviews. And with staying sane working at a pharmacy. They looked insanely busy when I went to the pharmacy here last week.

It’s beautifully sunny here today… but -6 Amurikan degrees. Brrrrr.

I am half-asleep and on tea #2 of the day, which doesn’t seem to be having much effect on my level of consciousness - this waking up at 6am stuff is killing me.

Also, as of yesterday, they’ve relocated me to a new pod which seems to have been assembled in an abandoned boardroom using whatever materials they could scrounge up from the reject pile. My monitor is flickering so badly that it probably believes its true purpose in life is to throw light-switch raves, my chair is a soothing late-80s blend of stippled dusky rose and teal with charcoal accents, and the desk has been set to the perfect height for instant carpal tunnel.

Plus… it’s only Tuesday. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

I think I’m gonna switch to coffee and see if that helps.

Evening all. My work day is over (Thank Og!), HRH is bathed, fed and sleeping, hubby is out at work or drinking coffee with his mates or something and I am Doping, contemplating what to throw together for dinner and wondering what is on the Teev tonight! Nothing like a little bit of multi-tasking to wind down after another tough day of pretendy-working! Tomorrow, I may actually have to do something though, as my boss is going to Madrid next week for an internal corporate conference and has to give a presentation that she has decided I should write for her (even though my impending departure means I will not be going to Spain at the firm’s expense to hear her mangle my eloquently written words - B*STARDS!). Sigh …

Muppet (such is your nickname, so it is decreed), the one good thing about my office is the big boss refuses to skimp on important things like monitors and furniture. Everyone in the office (from secretaries throught to partners) has a 19" LCD monitor, the latest laptop (for lawyers) or tower (for secretaries) and an ergonomic chair and desk arrangement! I got peeved when I first started there that they gave me some crappy “executive” chair with no back/lumbar support, as if as a lawyer, I was expected to do all my work leaning back with my feet up on the desk (I wish!). I told the big boss it wasn’t acceptable, so he gave me the catalogue for the office furniture manufacturer in the UK and told me to order whatever I thought we needed!

Okay, off to check the EPG for tonight’s viewing pleasure, then rummage through the pantry for some sustenance!

Morning, all. Sounds like everybody’s got a case of the grumpys this morning! Well, I’m joining the crowd. Papa Tigs was off all day yesterday thanks to Dead Presidents Day, and speaking about a case of the grumpys – he grumped and snarled around the place all day long, and then when he was out would call me up to grump and snarl over the phone. I was ready to throw him out on his ear! Fortunately, tomorrow I get to take him to the airport for a ten-day conference in Orlando, so [del]yay! I’ll have the house to myself for ten days![/del] although I’ll miss him very much, of course, I’ll [del]have way too much fun[/del] suffer through it somehow.

Seriously, one of my girlfriends suggested a few years ago that every marriage would benefit from the husband being out of town at least one weekend a month, and I must say I agree. Especially now that Papa Tigs only works 9 days every two weeks, he’s underfoot waaaay too much when I’m trying to get things done around here. I have my nice little weekday schedule all set up here at home, and having him home just upsets everything. He’s definitely going to be finding something to do out of the house when he retires, he’s already been well warned of that!

Anyway, hugs, yays, boos to everybody, and now I need to get going on all the work I couldn’t get done yesterday because every time I got started, I got interrupted by grumping and snarling and crankiness. Grr…

Hmmmm… Muppet. I kinda like it! (incidentally, one of the cats is nicknamed Muppet, amongst other things, because she looks like one)

I am now drinking coffee and have achieved wakefulness. My chair is still ugly and outdated, my monitor is still flickering, and my desk is still at the wrong height… but at least I’m awake and that’s a start.

Morning, everyone. Still seven minutes of morning left.

I think I should probably go sleep some more. It’s a blessedly work-free day. I’ll do some laundry, and maybe wash dishes later. Maybe. Everything else is napping if the baby’s crashed. Which he has.

Only if the caterer promises to participate in the low-key orgy.

Done with classes for the day. I should be productice today - clean, do some yoga, catch up on grading. This requires that I stay far away from the Dope, so I’ve promised myself I won’t log on until after I’m done with stuff. We’ll see how well that works.

well, it looks like it’s going well so far.

Yeah, me too. I’m actually in class!

See you soon…

It’s all good. I get paid to surf the Dope (and other places)…All the work that I have for the day is done…so, unless I get something that I don’t know about yet, I’m done. Ugh. I dislike not having enough to do. Thank Og for the Dope.

I should clarify- I’m stepping out while my students are working their lab- I’m not actually a student doing this in the middle of lecture.

Don’t wanna set a bad example for the kids out there…

 Well, I knew you were a prof…So, I was just picturing you at the front of the class typing into your laptop while your class was busy with an essay test or something.

Teachers everywhere thank the gods that be for the Internet.

Okay, I’m going now. Really.

Come on, tell us how you really feel about this!

How old are the kid(s?) BTW? What is the evaluation for – something medical (in which case I hope it’s negative) or some kind of aptitude test (in which case – positive, of course!

And why is there a week of school vacation right now in the middle of nothing?

Glad to be of service… anything you’d like to do together while you’re skipping class? I’m home from work, so I’ve got some time on my hands!

:dubious:

:stuck_out_tongue:

Riiiiight. :dubious:  :stuck_out_tongue:

I remember when I lived in Connecticut for junior high and part of high school, we got an extra week’s vacation in February, presumably so everyone could go skiing. That’s not a vacation that’s taken anywhere else in the country I’ve lived/been in school/had kids in school, but it was lots of fun at the time. Even if we didn’t go skiing – hey, what’s not to love about a free week of sleeping in late? (Of course, the drawback was that we were in school until mid-June, but in February, we didn’t care!)

Looks like we shamed her into getting some work done, after all…
