well, mine is varied as well…without listing or busting out with all sorts of classifications thats all i have to say…someone said they had no country or rap, try johnny cash or black eyed peas, your mind may change to allow at least those two…
I’m listening to Black Sabbath today, and tomorrow night I’m going to see Common, Talib Kweli, and Gang Starr. I think that’s a pretty wide spectrum.
I have such an eclectic music collection that I make other eclectic music collectors cry.
On my MP3 player (I own all of the CD’s but the mp3 player is portable thus better) I have the following (the list is not complete by any means):
**Oldies{/b] Simon and Garfunkel (everything they did together), The Byrds (everything they did together), The Mamas and the Papas, The Turtles, Badfinger (cheesy 70’s rock), The Doors, Creedence Clearwater Revival, among many others.
Classical Symphonic Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances, Symphonies, by Shostokovich, Arensky, Scriabin, Mahler, Stravinsky (Petrushka, The Rites of Spring, Persephone, and one other), Samuel Barber, Arvo Part, Mozart, Ravel, Debussy and many others
Opera’s by Purcell (4 operas), Pergolesi (2 operas), Gershwin, and a few others.
Chamber music many different classical guitar performers (Bream, Williams, Kannengeiser, Romero, to name a few) performing concertos and solos. Piano music (many different performers performing all sorts of solo work on the piano from many different composers), Choral music, (many different choral ensembles performing various choral works from pre-renaissance to modern day), Lute consort and lute songs (performed as period pieces on period instruments), Viola da gamba solos, Theorbo solos, various wind/brass instrument solos and many others too numerous to count.
Folk music from Different World (not the TV Show), to Janis Joplin, Arlo and Woodie Guthrie, Peter Paul and Mary, Trout Fishing in America, Miles and Karina, the Grateful Dead, and many others.
Filk music that includes Leslie Fish, Chaos, Mercedes Lackey, Tim Cavanaugh, and several others.
** Bluegrass** Doc Watson, The Be Good Tanyas (if you like bluegrass they rock), and a few others.
World music J-pop (music from Pony Canyon: the yatta song people); Flamenco (Tomatito on up), Kodo (Japanese drum group), various Celtic bands(more folk than new age), some zydeco and gypsy accordian music, and many others.
Rock music General 80’s rock bands, mostly new wave. (A-ha, Tears for Fears, Devo, etc)
Heavy metal Crossing many genres all into one. From Grindcore (Old Lady Drivers, Blood, and Feces…an old local band i played with for fun to name one) and death metal (Coronor and Liar of Golgotha…to name a few… ) general heavy metal (Celtic Frost, Metallica, Anthrax, etc), to some individual hair band songs (I tended not to like them as much other than a few songs).
Punk/hardcore Descendants, Misfits, Dead Kennedy’s, Agnostic Front, Black Flag, Minor Threat, and a few others.
Techno Some random techno songs that I happened to pick up the Cd’s to. Nothing that quite sticks in my head but they are fun to listen to some time.
New Age Cusco, Enya, Shadowfax, and a few others.
Blues Stephen Grossman, BB King, and Steve Vai.
Those are just a few samplings of anything that I can be found listening to at any given time on my handy dandy mp3 player. Every time I buy a CD I rip it down onto it that way I can transport it around that much easier.

That was probably me. I didn’t say I never listen to them; I just don’t own any. (Although, come to think of it, I’ve got a Shania Twain single somewhere…)
This represents the artists present in my MP3 collection (all legally obtained {wink - wink}). Not altogether varied, but at least I have a lot of what I like.
I do not wish to discuss my vinyl collection, which I sold to partly finance a cross country move, and I do not wish to discuss my cd’s, most of which were either broken or lost in a a subsequent cross country move.
Thanks for bringing that up. Bastard!

Was (Not Was)
Yes
so varied… right now in my cd player alone i have three very different things:
budapest - too blind to hear
faust - compilation from the opera (i’m seeing it next week
paul van dyk - global
so yea… pretty all over the place!
So varied … that I have no idea who any of those people are.
Ummm well Faust is an opera, and I’m listening to exerpts from it. Probably not everyone’s taste, but if you like French opera, I highly recommend it.
Budapest is a pretty new band from the UK. Kindof in the same vein as Coldplay, pretty moody and melodic stuff. Nice album.
Paul van Dyk is a big trance DJ who also creates his own tracks. He just put out a big retrospective which is making me nostalgic for the 90’s rave scene.
And then one I left out is the Soundtrack of Our Lives - Behind the Music. They are a swedish band and this album is fantastic. Think Oasis, Kula Shaker, the Verve… they are on tour right now and I’m told the live show is amazing.
Now you’ve heard of them!
