I was re-organizing my music collection and was surprised by just how many I have. By category:
Rock/Pop/Hip Hop/R & B: 74
Some Variety of Christian Music: 45
Soundtracks: 22
Christmas: 10
Classical: 12
Sound Effects: 1
TOTAL: 164
This does not include my hubby’s collection (of about 60-80).
Now, I know there are bound to be Dopers out there with at least triple my total, if not well in the 1000s. To be fair, though, count only commericially produced CDs–nothing you burned yourself.
I’m quite sure there are some people out there with thousands of cds. My cd collection increased significantly after I discovered Napster, but perhaps I was the exception - a person who bought several cds per month based on listening to the music first via P2P…
What’s most unusual about my CD collection is that whenever I visit other people w/large collections, I find very few albums that I have (except for Rock music); I’d say at least half of them (probably closer to 2/3) I’m the only person I know personally who owns that album (though that’s not true in online groups).
Mine’s at about 350 or so, but I haven’t added more than a dozen in a long, long time, maybe a few years. I used to work in a store that bought and sold used CDs. We’d buy them for $3-4 and sell them for $6-8. Needless to say, when I saw one I liked, I bought it for $3 and that was that.
Probably about 350 Heavy Metal, 50 hard rock, and 50 random. I have absolutely zero CDs I got from on-line or copying from friends. These are 450 originals.
Funny on my ‘to do’ list for today is to call Century Media and order the new Sentenced CD Cold White Light. Oh how I would love to see the Sentenced and Lacuna Coil tour going on across the big pond but alas Americans don’t usually get great metal tours.
I’ve got around 600. Almost all are Metal, with the rest coming as rock, and a hand full, about 10 maybe Classical, mostly the heavy kind, and a few adult folk CDs (like Jim Croce). I am in the need of another CD case now, it’s the third or forth one I’ve bought in the last few years.
I’m in awe at those numbers, people! In my defence, a normal CD costs about $20 to $23 in the Netherlands, and we make less money than youse guys.
My collection is about 250 CD’s, I think. I’m sure 95% can be classified as “Rock”, ranging from Dire Straits to Rush to Slayer. The rest is country, classic, or Dutch bar music.
Well, when we just took down our cd racks to paint the walls, we boxed up approximately 2500. This does not include the 1000 or so in storage or the 100 or so Christmas cds put away with the Christmas stuff. We decided not to put the racks back up and are getting these storage units instead.
They’re pretty expensive, but the ability to hide 270 cds per drawer is worth it. Plus it’s modular so you can keep adding to it.
If your cd collection is getting out of hand, I recommend looking into these.
At a guess, I’d say I own about 400-500 that I’ve purchased, another hundred or so in live shows that I’ve downloaded or traded for (Phish, Dead, etc.), and another 100 or so that I’ve downloaded as mp3s.
Not bad to have never had a real job. I’m frightened at what I’m going to do this year when I actually have a salary. (First paycheck Friday! First stop, Record Exchange!)
I have no desire to classify them…where would the Bela Fleck go? (There’s quite a lot of it.)
vaguely astounded I probably have a few hundred, mostly in classical, but even with this small number (by y’all’s standards, anyway), I don’t listen to most of them all that often… God, if I had, say, 1000 CD’s, I could listen to a different one every day for 3 years… don’t take this wrong, but do you people who have that many actually USE most of them?
Wow, I am impressed, folks. Those are some mighty fine collections listed here. I am far to lazy to count and categorize my CD collection, but I guess I have around 200 or so. I suppose that most of them would fall under “Rock” or “Metal”, although “Classical” is also well represented.
I have no CDs whatsoever. The only time I spend listening to music is while I’m also doing something else, and considering how much I spend on my computer, and games and DVDs, I have little reason to buy entire albums. If there’s a song I like, I d/l the MP3.
