In the process of (finally) putting my CDs on computer, I’ve discovered that even though I stopped automatically buying every Elvis Costello CD a decade ago, I still have 24 of them! Richard Thompson is second with 15.
What musician have you most contributed to the livelihood of by buying their albums?
Repeat sales count. I have three separate versions of <ahem> This Years Model, due to different bonus tracks.
Nothing at all like yours. I have a few by Clapton. I have purchased George Winston’s December many times because I keep giving it away. I have a couple of Meatloaf’s.
Probably Van Morrison, as his catalog is so vast, spanning 40+ years
(though I have a lot more music by the Grateful Dead than any other single band, its almost all live concert recordings, which were traded freely, not purchaced)
Everything from Springsteen that was sold through normal channels (not bootlegs, etc.) He far outnumbers anyone else, Stan Rogers coming in second since his career was sadly cut short.
LPs: every US release (except Endless Wire) and all the UK releases up to Who Are You, various bootlegs.
CDs: Every US release, all of the “Deluxe” re-issues, and 5 of their official live “Encore” soundboard recordings from 2002-2007.
I also have all of Pete’s solo stuff, most of John and Roger’s solo stuff, over a dozen live and documentary DVDs, and a bookshelf full of assorted titles.
Monty Python. I own all of their albums except 2, I believe. It’s a lot. And a lot of repeats. But some have unique versions of the songs/sketches that other albums don’t have. I know they’re not a music group, per se, but they did put out a lot of music and also have comedy albums.
I have all of Jackson Browne’s catalog (even though the last 4 or 5 aren’t really very good.)
I think I have more Neil Young than Browne, but not all of them. Again, a 40-year career makes his catalog pretty vast.
I’ve probably bought more albums / cassette tapes / CDs by Pink Floyd than by any other single artist. Yes in 2nd place, with Alan Parsons Project right behind them in 3rd.
I saw Neil play in New Orleans in May—Absolutely one of the best sets I have ever heard him play—A full career retrospective, with a sprinkling of his new stuff; truly one of the most talented performers around!!!
Hm. I have a lot of twos and threes, but it looks like the big hitters are:
The Doors (4 albums)
Nirvana (4); surprising because I never really cared for them other than in the Unplugged performance. I must have ripped my husband’s CDs at some point.
Fleetwood Mac (4, plus the Stevie Nicks box set)
Coldplay (5)
Eddie Izzard (5)
The Offspring (5)
The Jam (6, depending on how you count them)
Pink Floyd (7); but everything except The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon is my husband’s.
Queensryche (7)
Dream Theater (8); but I would have only bought two of them on my own, and the other six are again my husband’s.
I hadn’t realized that I was quite so caught in the past in my collection.
I had the most albums from Bill Cosby, way way back when he was making funny song albums. Now I can’t find any of them. My favorite song was “Ursulina With Your Washing Machina”/ Jump so high you touch the sky/ Woo ooo
Hah! I have eight Queensryche albums and seven Dream Theater ones. Also…
The Ataris - 4
Guns and Roses - 5
Depeche Mode - 7
Faith No More - 5
Massive Attack - 5
Trance Control - I’ve got about 9 albums’ worth of material, but they’re semi-professional and I got most of it for free from their website, since they’d only released two albums commercially at the time.

I’m sure this isn’t a complete list, where there are CD versions of LPs I have both (LPs are a bit last century). Frank Zappa is probably next simply because he released so much stuff if you just have one in ten of his albums you need to move the car out of the garage to store them. So Robyn 20+ Frank ~15, Robyn wins.
