There have been lots of stars who bounced back from bizarre mental breaks and heavy drug addiction. So many that it’s almost a cliche.
My money is on a comeback. She’ll vanish from public view for a while, probably convert to Kaballah or whatever religion Madonna is into at the time, and the studio PR people will get to work. She’ll show up a few years from now, all cleaned up, with all the baby fat gone, with a new ‘serious’ album that the studio hired-gun songwriters worked very hard on. The new ‘serious’ Britney will get some critical approval, go on a big tour, and move into the ‘mature star’ phase of her career. All carefully packaged by the suits in the studio.
On second thought, I vote for ‘chokes on vomit and dies’. Someone else’s vomit, probably. Just like poor old Stumpy Pete.
She will have her last show business gig on a Mississippi gambling establishment. Then she will retire and raise three well-adjusted kids. Eventually she will earn a card in Trivial Pursuit 2020.
How old is Britney…25, 26 or thereabouts? Looking at many of you who have posted to this thread (and knowing roughly how old you are, ha!) it seems vulterous to be predicting the demise of someone so much younger, and yeah, I know it’s just a messageboard thread and all, but sheesh.
If I was a 25 year old fuckup, I’d be hoping that folks would be talking about my hopes for rehabilition and redemption , not my endtimes. That is so fucking depressing.
It’s pretty hard to keep it all straight, I realize, and I’m not sure my memory is up to snuff either, but I believe it was drummer Eric Childs who choked to death on someone ele’s vomit. John “Stumpy” Pepys, played by Ed Begley Jr. (“Great, tall, blond geek”)… well, I can’t remember what happened to him, and I believe there was another drummer called Stumpy Joe. Mick, the drummer who’s there for most of the movie, spontaneously combusts near the end and is replaced by Joe “Mama” Besser, clearly a nod to the Stooges.
Perhaps Britney will resurface as a drummer for Spinal Tap.
I could picture her becoming the next Courtney Love type. A mess of a woman who goes beween being brash and sobbing.
She’ll be around and pop up here and there but never to do anything relevent usually just to make a scene and be seen.
I don’t see a comeback in the forecast, simply becasue what successful teen pop singers have had success after their initial fanbase grew up, drug/mental issues or not? See NKOTB, N Sync, Backstreet Boys, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, etc.
Spears has already demonstrated a great deal more staying power than any of the acts you mentioned. Most of them realized success for a year or two (maybe more for BB & N Sync), while spears has been successful for about a decade now. Justin Timberlake has, as well.
Its hard to say she’s had a consistently sustained career when she’s had only one album of new material in five years, and that one tanked. Her 2003 album sold 3.1 million copies in the US, her only album of new material in the five years since then, in 2007, sold about 750K, her first to not sell at least 3 mil. And her US sales of her albums of new material have gone from 14 mil to 10 to 5 to 3 to 750K- so sustained or not, she’s definitely on the decline, and IMO would be even less relevant without the personal problems to increase attention and at least a few sales.
That’s my guess as well. Spears started out being famous as a musical performer. Then she became a musical performer who had some scandals. Now she’s a scandalous figure who occasionally gives a musical performance. Eventually the fact that she had a musical career will be forgotten and once that happens she’ll just be another person with mental problems. And when that happens, the public will stop caring about her mental problems and the spotlight will turn away from her. Spears will be able to stumble around in public, stoned and half-naked, and it won’t be a newsworthy event.
After that, who knows? Once she’s back in obscurity she may straighten herself out or at least reach some level of functionality. Or she might continue down the way she’s going and end up dead at an early age.
Spears will crack. She’ll lock herself up in her place and live off her royalties. Eventually she’ll become a combo of Norma Desmond and Baby Jane Hudson. She’ll be an 80 year old woman who dresses in the same trampy outfits she wore when she was 20. The inside of her house will be filled with the memorabilia of her career. Jamie Lynn Spears will move in with her and the two of them will reminisce about their brief time in the spotlight. People passing by will occasionally hear snippets of “Oops, I did it again.”
Anywho, all I know is I find her annoying and I wish whatever she does she hurry up and does it soon so at least the news will stop focusing on her. Hopefully they’ll do a better job of forgetting her than they did Anna Nichole.
You really think so? You really think Larry King will live another 3-4 years?!?
I think $cientology is in her future. Imagine the positive press they could get if they cleaned her up and got her off drugs. I think they should get one of their new recruits to use her as a beard…err…enter a loving relationship with her.
I’d love her to get her act together. I think it is a shame that a talented singer and dancer has lost control of her life and is spiraling down the drain. She needs to spend a couple months, not days, at a real treatment facility, not a glorified spa. She needs to step away from the people in her life that have assisted her in this destructive behavior, such as her parents, manager, Paris and Lindsay. No more going to clubs, parties or whatever. Maybe a couple months staying at home, not leaving for anything except doctors visits or to see her kids at K-feds house. If she can clean herself up and stay sober for 6 months, I’d be hopeful for her future.
But that would take some common sense and a true friend, not some sycophant, telling her to snap out of it. I don’t see it happening.
