If I were a news exec, I’d tell my network to start the day at 9:00 am eastern saying “X Network Declares Biden Winner”. Imagine how pissed Orangeboy would be!
I’m quite worried. My wife is a rabid Trump supporter and literally nothing he does makes her bat an eye. Last night she was on about how much he’s ‘done for the blacks,’ but one of her best friends is a utter outspoken racist so I don’t put too much faith in that kind of talk. She thought she could prove her point by texting me links to video from last night’s Miami rally. My only takeaway is that Trump supporters support Trump. But she is 100% convinced that the poll numbers we’re all seeing are designed by the MSM to give a false sense of security to those Liberal dupes who are OK with Biden’s jacking up our taxes as much as possible as his first act in office IF he wins. Which he won’t. Because the entire nation loves and supports our great President Trump.
No matter what happens, the next 4 years in my house are going to be unpleasant, I can already tell.
Our electoral system didn’t just happen. It’s the result of conscious decisions that were made. It heavily favors white voters. Conservatives have consistently used that to win office without winning elections by targeting white voters for favored treatment. The only change in this over the years is that those conservatives used to call themselves Democrats and now they call themselves Republicans.
It’s true Clinton didn’t play this game. But I can’t condemn her for choosing not to pander to white voters even if doing so might have benefitted her.
Clinton chose to appeal to all Americans. The Republicans chose to appeal to white people. The Republicans won and the country lost.
I was thinking percentages. Dewey got 45.9% in 1944 and 45.1% in 1948. Clinton got 48.2%.
Not worried at all about the election. I’m a bit worried about the aftermath if poor losers go rampaging.
Actually, just like the Republicans they need the same amount of electoral votes. Anything else is completely irrelevant.
Run. Save yourself.
Me too! White militias looting Bass Pro Shops and Pep Boys…
How I envy you. No matter who wins or looses, you’ll almost certainly get your fill of rampage porn.
My mother stunned me with the announcement last week that she had voted for Trump this time. She was diehard anti-Trump and voted for Hillary last time. And she urged me to vote for Trump as well.
What changed her mind, do you know?
Fear?
Senility?
I am off to get groceries too. I don’t believe the election will be decided tomorrow. I can only keep switching back from fox to MSNBC and waiting. Though I do have trepidation about a president who said he was his own husband(Biden)
I agree with you on this.
Although I suspect we’re not talking about the same group of poor losers.
She believes that there will be a massive crackdown on Christianity and religious freedom if Biden wins.
I don’t dispute that religious freedom will be cramped somewhat if Biden wins, but not anywhere to the extent that she fears.
To what extent do you believe religious freedoms will be be restricted?
Depends on what religion she is.
A lot of mainstream churches are victims in this culture war. Factions in the congregations will use wedge issues like gay marriage and abortion to divide the congregation, take over key positions in the church leadership and then eventually force a split from the mainstream denomination, waging legal battles to retain the church property and endowments. These efforts are frequently funded by outside groups with opaque funding.
An Episcopalian pastor I remembered from my youth went hard-core anti-gay and pulled this stuff on his church ( not the church I attended, he had moved to a church in a more conservative area ). I read the story with interest but at the time I didn’t realize it was part of a greater movement.
I hope Carville knows what he’s talking about. It would be nice to go to bed before midnight and be able to sleep soundly and have good dreams.
I was equally stunned by something my mother told me today: My step-father-- nearly 90 years old, lifelong Republican, votes in every single election, white, evangelical Christian, no college degree-- voted for a Democrat for president for the first time in his life. Four years ago, he abstained from voting for president because Trump was the candidate, this year he had to go one step further.
My mother literally started this story about my step-father’s Biden vote by whispering, “Please don’t tell anybody this, but…” My hardcore Republican step-father, the shy Biden voter. My mother, on the other hand, is a proud & vocal Biden voter
I’m very worried about the election; mortified about the future of democracy. Trump has already done irreparable damage to the nation’s faith in our democracy, and no matter the outcome will undoubtedly do more before this election is decided. Even if we recover, how long does that recovery last, and what comes next? Trump may not be Caesar, but he could very well be Gracchus.
I was heartened when I went to vote with a member of my extended family.
She hates Trump. I knew that. But she lives in a rural area, is quietly religious, has a concealed carried permit and carries a gun in her glove compartment and is a big supporter of the police. She is a registered Independent.
I was not surprised that she voted for Biden. But I was impressed with the determination she exhibited when she drove all around two counties to straighten out her registration problem ( she had moved without thinking about the fact that she crossed county lines, so she went to one polling place, then another that was some distance away, than back home to get documents then back to the last polling place )- and was really pleased when she was talking about the importance of a large decisive Biden win.
Based on anecdotal information, I feel good. Everyone I know that voted Trump in 2016 was among the “I thought maybe he would be Presidential and I really couldn’t bring myself to vote for Hillary” camp and they are all voting Democrat. But I really don’t know, some of the other anecdotes I’m hearing worry me and I also worry that the polling missed large swathes of voters -. At this point I’m just driving myself crazy.
