How Would a Tie Be Broken on "Survivor"?

What happens if, for instance, next week two people each get four votes to be kicked off? Are there rules that address this?

they both have to do that ‘spin in a circle with a baseball bat on your forehead’ thing, and the last one to hurl up a rat wins.

personally, i think it would be a better idea to strand them both, and have the winner be the first one who makes it to the hotel where everybody else is.

Judging from the experts over at the Survivor Sucks message boards, the cast will vote over and over for the top two votegetters until somebody cracks and the tie is broken. They have deduced this from some statements of Jeff Probst and/or Mark Burnett. It is the subject of much discussion on their board this week because they foresee a tie on tomorrow night’s episode.

The answer, Johnny, is that a tie will be broken by the show’s writers :p. If Survivor Sucks is to be believed, Survivor edits their footage so heavily that the whole thing might as well be acted out on a sound stage.

OK, so suppose there’s two people left on the island (which is presumably inevitable)… Is either one going to ever just say, “OK, you can have the million, I’ll just vote myself off”? The whole thing strikes me as one of the stupider ideas for a TV show (not that it matters to me, not having a TV).

When there are only 2 people left, they bring back the last 7 outcasts and they vote for the winner.

Well what if all 7 of them die before that date? I mean, if they couldn’t cut it as survivors on TV, what makes anyone think they’ll survive in real life?

There was a New Zealand-made variation of Survivors (ie because it seems to have been shot before or concurrently with Survivors) called Treasure Island.

The game was won when whoever was left on either team had deciphered all the clues and found the treasure.

Things did look up slightly when one team found an old flintlock, but it was just another clue to the treasure.

I’ll tell you though, it is funny watching the American show. Getting all antsy about having to eat a couple of huhu grubs and the odd rat? Our guys caught and killed their own goat, and were frying up huhu grubs like king-sized prawns!

Hmmm, king-sized prawns…

They’ve already had a tie. They just vote again, but they can only vote for the top two vote-getters. They just show the final round of voting.

What do you base this statement on? Do you have a cite?

Tampa,

I second what Wanderer requested.
What do you base this info on ?

I third it. When was there a tie? I can’t believe they wouldn’t show that.

Also, what happens if there are ONLY two vote-getters? I mean, I could see if there were 3 for one, 3 for another, and 2 for a third person. Then you have to vote for one who got 3; okay. But what about 4 for one and 4 for the other?

The info’s from a recent article in Entertainment Weekly. If you remember, when Greg was voted off, he & Jenna were the only people who got votes. This was the result of a tiebreaker vote.

The voting history is at

Am I the only one who thinks they’re actually living in beachfront cabanas, eating barbequed steaks and guzzling margaritas when the cameras aren’t rolling? I mean, that would sure make ME not want to get voted off. Assuming the voting isn’t rigged.

Why the hell don’t they skewer one of those monkeys or snakes and BBQ their ass up.

Hmm, never watched the show, but it would be really cool if they had a death battle like Kirk and Spock with those crazy-ass Vulcan Axe thingies…

They’re not allowed to harm any native species. The rats were introduced to the island via ships, so they’re not considered native. Apparently anything in the ocean is A-OK though.

Tampa, I still don’t see how that would have needed a tiebreaker. The alliance was still together at that point, so we know that Richard, Kelly, Susan, and Rudy would all have voted for Greg. We also know that Sean would have because of his alphabetical scheme. That makes five votes. Colleen, Greg, and Gervase could all have voted for Jenna and it wouldn’t have mattered.

In other words, I’m suspicious of the article you mention. It just doesn’t make any sense if they cited that vote. I also don’t see why the show wouldn’t have shown a tie.

I would think that a tie would be all suspenseful and boost ratings. Why wouldn’t they show that?
