For starters, it would require a lot more personal effort than he’s used to.
The bomber appears to be…not so smart. BUT, come on, Trump is not even THIS smart. There is no way he has the brain power to carry out a plan that involves writing, assembling parts and a little follow through.
He’s just not competent enough.
If he DID do it, with maybe some help or a lot of help, his followers would celebrate. The politicians would pretend to be upset, for a day or so, but then they would do what they’re doing now, which is make fun of the terrorism, blame the victims, blame the media.
The rubes would celebrate openly.
“Everybody… a lot of politicians, people are saying, send, you know… part of the art of the deal is getting a little rough sometimes, you have crazy Maxine Waters getting in the face, of the restaurants, all politicians… you have these packages coming in the mail, right? Everybody sends mail in politics, it’s just a thing everybody does. Maybe I send the best packages of all! But I didn’t do these, that I can tell you. That’s more fake news from the fake news that I like to call fake news. If I were sending the pipes, the bombs, you would know they were mine, believe me.”
Supporters: “Of course he had to do it. The antifas are getting so violent. Besides, everybody sends mail and sometimes gets rough. That’s competition. We like a fighter.”
OP, wouldn’t he also need, “USPS For Dummies”?
Is this a sincere question or is it a snark echo-chamber pile-on? The responses suggest the latter.
If there was incontrovertible evidence this happened, my guess is there would be impeachment proceedings in the very near future which would overwhelming pass in both houses. And Pence wouldn’t pardon. I mean, if we’re actually talking reality here. You can quote Trump’s “5th avenue” line all you want, but it wouldn’t be his choice at that point.
For individual republicans, I’m sure there would be some that wouldn’t believe it and thought he was framed or whatever, but it wouldn’t matter at that point. Pence would be President. End of story.
I would guess they would be pretty worried, since this implies that the Secret Service, along with a number of other US agencies would also be involved. What? You guys think that Trump (or any US President) is allowed to just wander around like in Dave? Maybe go down to the hardware store and buy some bomb making stuff, then nip off to the post office to send out some bomb packages? Even making them in the White House has some pretty dire implications.
So, my WAG is that both the Republicans and Democrats would be pretty riled by something like this since it implies that the entire Executive Branch is mad dog dictator out of control AND that several large and trusted agencies can’t be trusted. This might be the end of the US level stuff if this actually happened.
Happily, it’s such a stupid and ridiculous notion that we don’t have to worry quite yet that things are this bad.
Impeachment or 25th.
nm
‘Sitting presidents can’t be indicted.’
Sorry, but this incredible caricature you have of Republican voters is mind numbing.
I can’t see anyone even trying to condone it, no one but the fringest of the fringe.
It’s not like somebody working in a democrat candidate’s campaign shot the majority leader.
As a republican I’d be calling for impeachment and prosecution.
Interestingly enough, now that they’ve actually arrested the terrorist bomber and he’s a total MAGA guy, I actually saw someone online saying, “Well at least this guy was upfront about where he stands, not like these antifa guys who hide behind black masks.”
Of course, “Mr. Up Front” hid behind Debbie Wasserman Schulz’s return address.:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Honestly, my opinion of Trump would have increased if he had been behind the bombs. First off I don’t think he is capable of reading anymore so learning how to make bombs seem beyond him. Secondly I don’t think he could be subtle enough not to say the bombs were from him on national news. Lastly I don’t think his physical health is good.enough to do the delicate work of bomb making without killing himself. If he was not only would that mean he is smarter than I think but also that he’s a good enough actor to have me totally fooled so over all I’d be impressed with him.
They would be utterly devastated that someone who they believed held their values would do something so beyond redemption. They would be calling for his immediate impeachment and prosecution.
That is how I would feel. That kind of thing has no place on Earth.
I submit that they’re not like you, at least a good portion of them.
Also, “so beyond redemption”? Let’s look at the situation: Nobody’s actually been hurt. (Yet? As far as I know anyway.) That means maybe it was just a threat. And if it was, it’s far from the first openly threatening statement that Trump has made. None of his prior threats or calls for violence have driven these people away from him, so why should this one?
Now, if one of these devices actually blew up and killed somebody, then maybe some of them might decide it was murder of an innocent rather than a justified attack on an enemy (something to be proud of).
Some of them.
Maybe.
THIS Trump voter and republican (sort of) would be the first to call for his impeachment and arrest.
And with absolute seriousness, that raises my estimation of you a notch.
One of the most frightening things about this whole Trump mess is the way he and his cronies can say or do anything and, by all appearances, retain their following. Justifications and misdirections flow free and fast, and at every bit of bigotry and call to violence his base cheers. From my lofty perch huddled* inside my apartment it sounds like a torch-and-gun-weilding mob in the making.
And if there’s one way this whole situation could get worse, it would be to add mobs.
- (I keep my apartment a bit cool so I can wrap myself up snugly while watching TV)
Same here. The republicans I know in person are, for the most part, totally morally and intellectually bankrupt due to partisanship. Its nice to see republicans who value things like decency, the rule of law or facts more than political partisanship.
I know conservatives on this board get ridiculed a lot, but as someone who has lived in small towns in red states, the conservatives here really aren’t that bad compared to the brainwashed neo-fascists you find in many places in rural America.
George Soros paid Trump to mail the bombs.
There was a rather cogent op-ed published this week (in the Wall St. Journal, of all places) looking at parallels between Trump and Kaiser Wilhelm II. It was noted that they had in common intelligence, boorishly self-destructive and idiotic behavior and a love of publicity, with ministers/underlings rushing around madly to do damage control after their Leader had yet again done something incredibly stupid.*
Actually making and dispatching bombs to enemies would have been wildly out of character for both - Willy because he would have insisted on the military having sole right to make bombs (and also because he only had one functional hand). If Trump went raving nuts he’d still delegate the job to someone else.
*my favorite loony Kaiser Wilhelm story involves an address to a contingent of his troops, during which he advised them they must unconditionally obey every one of his commands, even if he ordered them to kill their parents.
