How would you categorize yourself on the U.S. political spectrum?

No poll option for me… I’m far left by Norwegian standards.

Intensely liberal on some issues, intensely conservative on others, rock-ribbed libertarian on others.

For example, I support Universal (single-payer) Health Care. I support “common sense” gun control measures (like background checks, for example). I support an absolute, 100%, almost Trump-Border-Wall-Like separation between church and state. I suppose that makes me a “liberal.”

I also support the Second Amendment in the abstract and in the fundamental right of Americans to keep & bear arms (although, see the previous paragraph). I believe in the sanctity of free speech and in the right of the people to peacefully assemble, whether they’re the Klan, Antifa, or anything in between.

I support ending US meddling in other nations’ affairs, and I absolutely oppose sending our men & women off to die in the name of nation-building, oil, or whatever other excuse.

I support ending the War on Drugs. Legalize all drugs, FFS - what another adult puts into their body is not my (or your) business. While we’re at it, do away with all victimless “crimes” like prostitution or gambling.

I believe the entire public education system in this country needs to be torn down and built back up from Square One. Move the focus away from academia and towards prep for real life. Teach the kids the Three Rs, of course, but also gardening, budgeting, meal preparation, family planning, swimming, nature survival skills, seafaring skills (if they live in coastal communities), First Aid, how to recognize mental health issues in their peers, how to get help for mental illness, and so on and so forth. Similarly, schedule classes based on what we know about children’s natural sleep cycles and such - this business of having teens in school at 8:00 a.m. is literally destroying their brains.

So yeah - liberal on some issues, conservative on others, rock-ribbed libertarian on others.

For the most part Far Left but I come down Right on enough topics (guns for example) that I’ll say Middle Left over-all.

I’d be far left in the US, I’m kind of right wing here.

I’m now what would be an “Eisenhower republican” circa. 1960. This would put me left of the democratic party today ( cheifly economically ), and far left of today’s republican party. So I triangulated and voted “lean left”.

How does saying someone is factually incorrect dehumanize them?

If you can whoop 'em with data, then being called a name will not bother ye.

Well, there’s the Republican party as it should exist, and the Republican party as it does exist.

Imagine if the Democratic party was completely replaced by people who believe in Bigfoot and hold LGBT rights and diversity as the Holy Grail of political thought, eschewing all reason as regards those subjects, forgetting everything about economics, national security, medical research, foreign policy, etc. The party and 99.999% of everyone in it goes that direction, becoming blissfully unaware of reality and, instead, allowing themselves to become swamped by a few BS-versions of BS and non-BS issues, leaving only you and a few spare persons around who still understand the world and how to recognize reality.

The fact that you’re alone doesn’t mean that you can’t argue for universal health care, to try and argue against torture, to try and push for a minimum wage, and so on. But you wouldn’t be part of the Democratic party. You wouldn’t be a member of any of the fringe radical groups. You’re not really a centrist. How do you describe yourself?

You’ve been abandoned by the party in favor of Facebook memes.

Only if you use it to pass policy.

You do remember policy, right? Hint: It’s that stuff you can’t do if you’re on Twitter whining about how everyone’s being mean to you.

You aren’t supposed to use your thumb to take a pulse. Therefore, I reject your poll.

Sure. I mean it’s not like brown people or women or homosexuals or transgender people count as human after all. You can watch their suffering and fear and laugh and laugh at them.

Quoted.

Since there’s no “extreme centrist” option for this poll I don’t give a shit about it.

The eventual outcome is as predictable as the winner of an Alabama vs. Prairie View A&M football game.

Sorry I can’t mark any of your poll selections. I prefer a 2 dimensional option, in which I would measure low in authoritarianism, and medium in the personal responsibility vs. social safety net dimension.

Trump licks dead monkey ass. There, I voted.

I was going to list myself as “far right”(by SDMB standards) for this particular poll until I saw the above definition. Centralized government control of almost everything is a feature of both your bookends. Where does that leave a conservative libertarian-leaning Jeffersonian?

20 years ago I was a centrist Republican. Then W, Cheney et al sent my students of to die for oil. That started my shift left. Now, Bernie Sanders looks right-wing to me.

Damn, I voted wrong. Sorry.
I voted middle right, when I should have voted middle left.
Why? I’m Canadian and up here I’m considered middle right, but would be considered middle left in American.
That’s the difference between our people.

Far left. Marxists are to the right of me.

Here’s a decent quiz from the Pew Research Center to objectively determine where you stand on the U.S. political spectrum:
