Very good point. The question becomes ambiguous even for recent eras, since our own views and experiences have evolved. I voted for McGovern as a young adult but if a time machine took my present less-leftish self back to vote again? It might depend on whether or not I’m “allowed” to take back my memories of Watergate’s culmination.

I don’t want to hijack the thread, but if we were in BBQ Pit I’d definitely have strong words to offer on the very strange comment that hindsight about Iraq wuld be a reason to vote for G.W. Bush!

Based on what I know of my family’s history, and assuming I was hanging out with that particular branch, I’d most likely have been a Yorkist. FWIW.

As near as I can tell, the Qin Dynasty was itself overthrown in a civil war. So he ended them for what, 10 years?

I only hope they open his tomb in my lifetime. It’s reckoned to be fairly intact, and would be just incredibly fascinating to see what they find.

But he lay the foundation for a unified empire. Indeed since all the rivals had been utterly destroyed within a few years the Han Dynasty had set themselves up.
