Significantly different from 3.5? Any major new features, good or annoying? Stable yet, or are they still working out the kinks?
I think the biggest change is “Personas” which is a new way of theming the browser’s appearance, which may conflict with any existing theme you’ve installed.
I’ve also noticed the wiggly red line under misspelled words is bigger and bolder.
Oooh, so when I switch browser appearance, I can shout “Persona!”?
I open new tabs by clicking links with the scroll wheel. Before, the new tab would be at the end of the line, now they open to the right of the originating site.
Like this.
SITE new new new SITE new new new
IIRC the navigation bar’s lookup code should be sped up. I haven’t tried it on this machine yet, but it’s one of the things that traditionally makes firefox slower the longer you’ve got it installed. If that works well, I’d be very happy.
Oooh, I just tested 3.6 on this machine, and the locationbar is definitely a lot quicker now. Used to be that when firefox was just started it took up to 20 seconds or so for anything useful to show up after typing the first couple of characters in the bar (and the browser was unresponsive during that time). Now it appears to be immediate.
I like it.
Yeah, the Awesome Bar was one of the things people kept harping on them to fix. Another is that it automatically repairs its database every so often, so it doesn’t get corrupted, which was a major cause of slowdowns on many PCs.
On the other hand, my mom is having some weird problems in Facebook right now. I know she often clicks things accidentally, and then has to close them. And Firefox seems to actually hang up on her now. So I’d say 3.6 has some bugs.
Pimpzilla doesn’t work on 3.6
When I click on links from my email for new posts to subscribed threads it doesn’t take me to the new post but to the first post.
I don’t see a lot of difference from 3.5 but I am far from a power user of FF
IE tab doesn’t work right now either.
I had to look to see if I had 3.6 yet or not, and I do. Ummm, it seems almost entirely indistinguishable from any of the previous versions, at least to me. This is a good thing.
I wonder if the problems Mom is having are with the plugins. That would make some sense.
My computer isn’t the quickest, and always had buffering issues with video. The new FF sems to have solved all that.
Yes!!!
And every little thing doesn’t hang up, like it used to.
Ooh, I hadn’t noticed that, but I think you’re right!
Gah. I just noticed that. I’m thinking of going back to 3.5.
The way new tabs pop up next to the tab in which the link you clicked on is located. I’m not sure if I like it or not but I find myself closing the wrong tabs still. There’s probably a way to fix it through about:config but it doesn’t bother me THAT much.
3.5 was crashing a lot and loading slowly. 3.6 is still new ,so it still works better.
You need the latest JAVA for some plug ins to work in Firefox 3.6. Be sure to update JAVA to version 6 update 18 at the same time if you don’t have the latest version.
Being Firefox, you can easily change that if you prefer it the old way.
I kept getting an annoying pop up error message about Chrome (not the Google app). I couldn’t find out how to stop it even though people were begging for a solution at the Mozilla forums. I uninstalled and went back to 3.5.7 and the problem was gone.
