HP & Goblet of Fire Teaser Trailer: mermaid question

The mermaid’s effing ugly, but not cheesy.

Is it just me or does Viktor Krum* look a lot like Justin Timberlake in that one shot?

*I’m assuming Viktor Krum is the guy with the shaved head in that shot where someone turns to face the screen and its kind of dark etc

The age of consent in England is 16. That gives you a couple extra years…

Eww. I’ll be TWICE his age next year. Just … eww. He is a cutie, though.

I went to see “Prisoner of Azkaban” wih my step-daughter (who was 14) and my wife (who isn’t a Harry Potter fan, but went as part of the family thing). Right at the beginning of the movie, my wife started commenting to my step-daughter about how cute Daniel Radcliffe is (with my step-daughter heartily agreeing).

Personally, I wanted to comment that Emma Watson is growing into a total babe, but while my wife can comment on the attractiveness of a teenaged boy with impunity, I look like some kind of creep for doing the same regarding a teenaged girl. So, I guess I just have to do it in an internet forum.

Emma Watson is growing into a total babe.

And she turns 16 next year.

How many guys over 32 in this thread would find what I’m implying “Just . . . eww”? And if you did, would you let that stop you?

You see, carlb, there’s a reason guys are considered creeps if they talk this way.

It’s because we are.

Nah, the delay was marriage, pregnancy, fame, and probably just wanting to take a break. In the time between Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix was when her fame rocketed, she had to make appearances and interviews, she had to approve movies, she had to travel, and of course she got married and had a child.

In between all other books her life was pretty tame and the books have been published approximately two years apart. Expect Book 7 in July 2008, is my prediction.

That’s my biggest concern. GoF is a HUGE book. OotP is BIGGER! How are they going to cut this down to 2 hours with two parts? I wonder what they’re going to cut out, but I can bet they’ll be some major, major cuts. Hopefully the DVD will have 2 hours of extra footage :D.

The film’s not going to be in two parts. They toyed with the idea, but then decided they could cut it down enough for one movie. PS and CoS were very canon-oriented, and were a little stiff because of the inflexibility. PoA, while a wonderful film, makes absolutely no sense to someone who hasn’t read the books/heard an explanation of them. There’s a very cute icon with Lupin saying “Please hold while I transfer you to the Department of backstory.” PoA focused almost not at all on the MWPP backstory, escept for the “You’ve got your mother’s eyes” lines and some brief Remus/Sirius reminiscing. I assume the same will happen to GoF. The major themes will stay, but the overall plot will suffer.

But she also had another baby, which might prolong the seventh book.

It minorly annoys me Emma Watson doesn’t look anything like Hermione after PS. And she wears too much pink (which was, btw, her choice, along with the rainbow belt. I fault her for it.) She is getting prettier though. I love Rupert Grint’s long hair, but I don’t think Daniel pulls it off as well.

So, I’ve seen pictures of the film, but I haven’t seen the actual trailer. (Anyone see the Rita Skeeter pictures? Not my favorite character, but she does look good.) My computer doesn’t like quicktime, and that’s the only link that’s been floating around for the last few days. Any other files? My computer can take Real Player and Windows Media.

I don’t think there’s going to be much of a problem with the length of GoF; IIRC, a lot of the wordcount in that book is dedicated to describing the action, not to plot exposition, and something that took Rowling 10 pages to describe may only use up 10 seconds of film. At least I hope it works out that way; if they mangle the storyline too much I’ll…I’ll…complain bitterly, or something.

Anyone else think Madame Maxime is WAY too skinny?

Looks nifty. Boys yummy (Rupert Grint, redheads, mumble mumble). Emma Watson also. I could be persuaded to actually go see this one in the theater–I wish I’d seen PoA there.

Good lord, does the woman just not know how to prioritize or how this inconveniences her fans? I vote that she give the kid to a wet nurse in the country and go pick her up when she’s 6 or whatever and get on with the books. (Victoria ruled a country and had nine kids, Rowling has no excuse.)

Actually, a morbid curiosity but one that I’ve wondered: if, may it never happen, Rowling dies or were otherwise incapacitated, I wonder if she’s left the characters to anybody, or for that matter left her papers and plans for the story arc. I’ve wondered this about other authors of series as well, but particularly this one since it’s the bestselling one in history.
