Relocated to Canada. Brought my laptop with me. Had to purchase an HP monitor online from amazon.ca.
Model of monitor is HP Compaq LA2405x. I connect my laptop to my monitor with a VGA cable because that is the only way i can do it. I cannot do DVI because my laptop… Asus u45jc-a1 doesn’t have a DVI port. I thought about doing HDMI from laptop to monitor but monitor doesn’t have HDMI port so this is the only way to connect.
I went to set up monitor to use multiple monitors.
Display 1 is my laptop monitor that is 14’ with 1366x768 resolution which is why i want to use the monitor i bought so i could play on a 24’ monitor with 1920x1200 resolution.
I changed the display from that to HP LA2405x with the 1920x1200 resolution and orientation is landscape and for multiple displays, i put show desktop only on 2 because i only want my monitor to show everything and don’t want nothing at all displayed on my laptop.
For the power options, i’m on power4gear high performance. I’m either on this one or high performance. Reason is b/c i play lot of tables and need to have it to do its best to go as fast as possible.
For on battery and plugged in… where you have the dim display, turn off the computer, computer go to sleep… i made everything NEVER and also adjust plan brightness is set to the max. I had this done for power4gear high performance, high performance and even power4gear entertainment mode even though i don’t use that one. I know the default for on battery when they dim the display is 2 or 5 minutes but i changed everything to never.
Does anyone know what i can do to fix this problem? I can’t have my monitor keep going to sleep after 5 minutes or 15 minutes or 30 minutes when im playing poker. Because when this happens, it takes a while to get my laptop screen to show all my tables and also i cant play a lot of tables when all the tables overlap on my 14’ laptop screen with a 1366x768 resolution and then it takes another 1 minute to try to get the main screen back on my monitor.
I read online a lot of ppl who have these problems… its almost always an HP monitor.
Anyone who has a monitor like this or HP monitor can give me some advice? Makes no sense it goes to sleep when in the settings i put never for all of them.
I think there’s an option in the monitor’s menu to turn off power saving?
But if I were you, I would use an HDMI to DVI conversion cable. They’re cheap, and all work pretty well because the video signal in HDMI is the same as DVI.
How do i know if my laptop has an hdmi out? I know my monitor has dvi or vga. But is there a chance it cant do hdmi?
My laptop… i dont think i can do dvi on it. Laptop model is asus u45jc-a1.
I got another thing i want to ask. I connected my laptop to monitor by VGA cable. I cannot do dvi b/c my laptop doesn’t have a dvi port so i would need to purchase an hdmi to dvi cable.
Do you there is a possibility that my monitor keep going to sleep… could it be because im using a VGA and not DVI? Because if this could be a possibility, then i would buy the hdmi to dvi cable. But if there is no way that could be the reason, i probably would stick to vga or return the monitor.
No i do not. I only have my laptop with me. Im in canada at the moment. Im from the usa and my desktop/monitor is back in the usa… so i had to buy a new monitor when im here in canada.
The monitor that i used back home i almost always connected it to my desktop computer. The few times that i did connect it to my laptop… this never happened before. I didn’t connect it that many times but surely i connected it more times than with this monitor but this never happened. My monitor at home in the usa is a 2007 dell fp. This one is an HP one that i bought from amazon.ca.
Hi. I see that. Yes i see that power saving feature was on. So this mean i should never have the monitor go to sleep on me ever right? Because if it does, im going to send it back to amazon b/c this is huge problem for me.
Got another question. I set the power saving to OFF.
But i also see there options like power on recall, mode display, ddc/ci support and all of these are set ON. Would i need to change this to OFF like power saving?
Connect the monitor to something else. A cable TV box, another computer, a game console, something, and see if the sleeping problem occurs with a video feed from another source.
