My laptop is Asus u45jc-a1
i3 m370 @ 2.4 ghz processor
4gb ram but i recently upgraded it to 8gb ram
250gb ssd samsung
Last year i bought a monitor that is hp la2405x because it has 1920x1200 resolution which i need because i need it to play online poker. I would connect my laptop to the monitor by vga cable. I noticed that the monitor would keep on going to sleep. Example i would be on the computer for few hours or play poker for few hours, then this message would show up. Then my HP monitor screen gets the no signal and then go to sleep and when im playing, i have to wait like 1 minute or so, then hold the power button on my laptop for a few seconds then it turns off. The i press it immediately and then it would show resuming windows. This was the fastest way for me to get back on the tables when not sitting out longer.
However if i dont wait 1 minute or so and then i just press/hold the power button immediately, then i would shut down my laptop which is horrible because if im playing tables, then i have to wait a few minutes due to having to power up the laptop again.
I then wondered if this was my monitor or it could be my laptop as i read it has something to do with video card? Well what happened was later on, i didn’t seem to have this issue anymore then after a while it came back again. This is very annoying when playing on pokerstars due to you going to miss out few minutes if you close the computer while playing because you going to be sitting out etc.
I then later on tried my laptop on another monitor a dell one. Note this monitor is very old, like 8 years at least. Similarly it had the same issue. It would go to sleep just like the HP one which when i bought it was brand new. The thing is you never know when its coming, it might happen once a day, twice a day, or 3 times, sometimes none. Im currently using another monitor and i had this issue yet again. This monitors an Acer. However, it doesn’t say go to sleep like the HP one. All it does is have the no signal message. All of these monitors i connect to my asus laptop by the vga cable.
Does this mean this is 100 percent my laptops fault then? Does anyone know what i can do to fix this issue? Does anyone know why is it that if you wait 40 seconds then press/hold the power button, after few seconds it turns off then you press it again, then it shows RESUMING WINDOWS but if you do this too quickly after the no signal, then press/hold the power button basically turns off the computer, then powering it on again makes you start windows as oppose to resuming windows which takes much more time?
Its very annoying when playing poker and many tables and this happens b/c im going to be sitting out tables due to this.
Another thing i notice is let say im on the computer most of the day but not playing poker, the monitor would go out once a day maybe or not at all. However when im playing poker all day, it will happen at least 1 time a day, sometimes 2 or 3 etc. Rarely does it never have the no signal.
Of course when im on the laptop only and dont connect it to any monitor, i never have this issue.
Does this mean its my laptop and probably the overheating or using too much electricity on the computer? The vga is plugged to my laptop so it isn’t loose. Im really confused at this and i basically cannot play poker if this happens as there is going to be at least 2 minutes downtime each time it happens.
Anyone know why this is happening?
Yes, it’s your laptop. You’ve confirmed that with the 3 different monitors.
First thing I would do is take out the new, extra 4Gb of RAM.
Make sure the laptop vents aren’t blocked - don’t put it on anything soft that it can sink into or suck into the vents.
Does the laptop display keep working when the monitors blank out??
The cynic in me wants to say it’s a sign that you shouldn’t be playing online poker (you certainly do not NEED to).
Actually i thought about something. When my other 4gb of ram got installed, my friend didn’t put it in well enough where my laptop didn’t turn on. I then had someone check my laptop and he said reason was b/c the new ram installed on laptop wasn’t plugged in hard enough. He then put some paper or something on the ram to keep the ram in place. I don’t dare to touch the ram as i dont want to damage it etc.
Could that be the reason then?
When the monitor blanks out, you can’t see anything. You can’t click on anything at all. If i were to immediately unplug the vga cable from my laptop, my laptop screen is still going to be blank. Basically i have to wait till the laptop turns off which takes around 90 seconds or so. Then i click power and resume windows and its fine again. Does that make sense?
Also when my laptop isn’t connected to a monitor, the laptop screen never goes blank.
Actually this doesn’t happen only when i play online poker. It happens when im browsing or doing nothing as well. However i noticed that this happens a lot more when im doing a lot of stuff on the computer at the moment.
anyone? i tried to install new drivers but everytime i did that, laptop never restarted, it was black screen.
I have no idea what the issue is.
