LCD monitor keeps going to Sleep Mode and back again

Hi,

My 17" Philips LCD monitor keeps going into the sleep mode by itself when I am actually doing something (like while doing word processing). Which one would be the most likely culprit?

  • VGA cable (checked)
  • Graphic card
  • The monitor itself

Thanks in advance!

How do you know it’s sleep mode, and not simply failing? What do you do to get it going again?

Have you tried turning off both the screen saver, and power save mode?

The screen goes black, and the text “Attention: Going to sleep mode” appears.

I have tried changing the display driver, which does not work.

The thing is, after leaving the computer on for some time, the problem disappears. If I leave the computer off for a long time (say >12 hours) and I switch it on again, the problem reappears.

ETA Power Saving : I have set “Switch off Monitor” to Never, and it’s still the same problem…

OK, well I can only guess that the monitor has it’s own internal facility to do this, that is failing to detect your activity somehow. Can you get into the monitor setup and check into that?

Yes I did check the LCD setup, but all that I could really change (which I think it’s related to the problem) is clock speed and phase.

I am ruling out the graphic card now because when I restart in safe mode, the problem persisted. (I am quite sure in safe mode it uses the standard VGA display driver and hence there is no software acceleration and the graphics card is not used. Am I right?)

From the number of complaints about this in a simple search, it appears the problem is endemic to the monitor with no known fix, short of getting rid of it and using a better monitor.

I counted two.

One is a site in which I am required to pay to view the solution.

I am not sure if a Windows Update would cause the problem, though I hope so - it means that I don’t have to replace it.

Thanks; I am still looking for a solution .
