Hudson vs. Pettitte, the rematch

Today, Tim Hudson pitches for the Braves against Andy Pettitte and the Astros in game one of the NLDS in Atlanta.

In 2001, Hudson, then a member of the A’s, faced off against Pettitte, then a member of the Yankees, in game two of the ALDS in New York. Hudson outdueled Pettitte and the A’s won, 2-0.

Interestingly, of the 12 A’s players who played in that game, five are on current playoff teams, though the A’s are not in the postseason this year:

Johnny Damon - Red Sox
Jason Giambi - Yankees
Jermaine Dye - White Sox
Tim Hudson - Braves
Jason Isringhausen - Cardinals

Just to show the contrast between the small-market A’s and monolithic Yankees, five of the Yankee players in the '01 game are still Yankees. Only one of those '01 A’s is still on the A’s.
