I was checking the Huffington post out today, and darned if it didn’t pop up with a bunch of Canadian stories on the front page! I was momentarily baffled, until I figured out that they are launching a special Canadian site www.huffingtonpost.ca

So much for keeping out of the spotlight…

Hmmmmm…

It seems that there is an automatic redirect from huffingtonpost.com to huffingtonpost.ca if your IP address is in Canada. I cannot get to huffingtonpost.com. At all.

The comments on the page are not reflecting happpiness:

“Just a heads up - Canadians don’t go to Huffington post for Canadian news.”

“I don’t mind the Canadian content, I do mind being automatically redirected to the Canadian address simply due to my location. Shouldn’t that be my choice?”

"I don’t want to be automatically directed to a website I DID NOT CHOOSE. Give Canadians a choice like Yahoo and many other sites. Until you change this policy my family and I are signing off! Thanks for the epic fail! "

Harvard Business Review should write this up as another case study on how managerial decisions so often misread their customers.
