Amusingly, I got one today and it was served wrapped in a single smallish sheet of wax paper and placed in a White Castle-esque box. Which caused the one side to be completely smashed before I got back to the office with it.

The burger was godawful. Wendy’s used to have good (and BIG) burgers-- juicy and delicious. The burger I got yesterday was indistinguishable from any other fast food burger. Low-grade crap. Also very small. The patty looked almost as small as a Krystal or White Castle burger.

Not sure what you are ordering, but a single has always been 1/4 pound and still is. Wrapped in a foil backed paper… no box at all.

But what really shocked me were the fries-I recall Wendy’s fries being big and chunky, but these were thin and liberally coated with that awful “seasoning” so many places put on them anymore

The current seasoning is potato skins and salt.
I just looked at their menu and there are some Jr or Value sized burgers that don’t say how big they are. I’ve always just ordered a single (or double, or triple) and gotten full sized burger.
It was the “Number One” meal; Single with cheese, fries and a drink.
I assume it was still the same weight patty but it was indeed in a box this time around, something notable to be because I had never seen it packaged as such.
DAMN!!!
So within one week they are changing even more… it’s the beginning of the end! (still a 1/4 pound… if you think that’s little you haven’t been to White Castles in a while… and the fries still just have salt, unless they have changed that in the last week as well)
I was under the impression that the only thing they “changed” at Wendy’s was the addition of the new Dave’s Hot and Juicy. Which is basically an updated burger with some of the changes mentioned in this thread. That’s why this thread makes no sense to me.
I can only surmise they are lying about that. Or else that is a pre-cooked weight and they are using higher fat-content burgers now and cooking out all that weight. The patty was nowhere near as large as this photo. False advertising.
Mine did not come in a box, but it was wrapped in white paper rather than the old-school foil.
I have no arguments about it being a 1/4 pound; I was just pointing out the coincidence of someone comparing them to White Castle as they start packaging their burgers in little cardboard half-boxes.
The syndicated column that headlined a week or so back that everyone is basing this thread on is highly misleading, confusing, and poorly written.
The fact is, Wendy’s added a new burger called the Dave’s Hot and Juicy with a bigger patty, red onion, new pickle, toasted Bun and no mustard that comes in the cardboard box half shell. Apparently, the only discernible difference in their classic single, doubles, and triple hamburgers-the backbone of their business- is a toasted, buttered bun, and a different pickle and red onions.
I received mine (in box) by ordering the #1 Combo which is the classic single with cheese. I didn’t special order any “Hot & Juicy”.
Ditto. Except I requested no cheese, which allowed me a good look at the tiny patty.
Apparently the “Number one combo” is no longer the classic single with cheese, Apparently it is the new “Dave’s hot and Juicy combo”. That’s the only explanation I got. Or, they are simply putting all of their burgers in the half box. Did it have mustard?
Tell that to their menu board people, I guess, because that’s not what it showed. I don’t really care what they changed but I know what I ordered and what I received.
I don’t remember if it had mustard or not. It was just a burger for lunch
Did it come in a box that said, in big letters “Dave’s Hot and Juicy” like this?
I’ll tell you what, if I can’t get a classic double with white onion (red onion sucks- too strong and acrid, wrong texture), regular pickles, and an untoasted bun… I will probably never go there again.
Instead of trying to fix what is not broken, maybe they should look at their pricing, overbloated corporate, and customer service if they want to increase their market share.
Now would also be a perfect time to bring back a new, and updated Salad/Super Bar with unique, tasty, and uberhealthy prepared salads and offerings. What with he Health consciousness movement. I think I stopped sitting down in a Wendy’s and really stopped going there so often right after they got rid of the salad bar.
Tried one yesterday, i’d call it the best of the fast food burger joints at this point. Beats places like McD and BK but nowhere on the level of something like five guys. Their fries are much better also.
Nope… the “Dave’s Hot and Juicy” is not a new addition to the classics. The classic Single, Double, and Triple are now “Dave’s Hot and Juicy 1/4 lb Single” etc. (yes, 1/4 lb precooked weight). The burger (meat) really isn’t that different, just not pressed as much.
You are incorrect. The classic single has been replaced. The Hot and Juicy is a substitution, not an addition.
And there never was shredded lettuce on any Wendy’s hamburger. The lettuce has not changed.
This thread is a jumble of confusion.
