Human Flag. WTF?

I found out about this from a Vaseline commercial of all things.

Youtube.

Tell me that other people are as amazed by this as I am.

I never heard about this before today. Is this a big thing, like tough man competitions? Are other people here as ridiculously impressed as I am?

You should see the women’s competition.

Now that was some manly pole dancing.

Seriously! My middle school friends all became obsessed with bodybuilding around grade 11 or so. I’ve had to endure more Mr. Olympia competitions than I care to ever see. And yet this is the first I ever remember being impressed by what some guy did with his muscles!

It’s true. I actually did a show last year with some women who could do that. (To clarify, I was just providing the music, not using the pole in any, erm, way.) It’s truly amazing, the strength these people have to be able to do something like that.

ETA: I just wanted to also add that while these women were obviously ripped, they weren’t gross or anything. Actually you probably wouldn’t know they’d be able to do that just by looking at them. They look strong, sure, but not overly so.

That was cool.

In India, manly pole dancing (aka Mallakhamb) is a sport. Impressive stuff.

Chinese pole dancing; one of the more memorable routines from Cirque du Soleil’s *Saltimbanco. * Several of their shows have had performers conducting variations on this and similar strength gymnastics. It really is beautiful to watch.

How in blazes does he rotate around the pole? I can vaguely see that someone could have the muscles to hold themselves horizontal, but how does he then push himself around?

And he’s from Quebec!

If it’s anything like the poles they have at my aerial/circus arts studio, the pole itself rotates in the base. He just has to shift his weight the right way to get the rotating effect.

Only tangentially related, but I can’t help but share this from one of the “related videos” to the OP’s link: Hulk kid!
