If you want to save him for a proper outdoor funeral, freeze him. I did that a few years ago to a hamster that died.
He was found about a year later. A little frostbit but all there. He is now under some daffodil bulbs in my front yard.

Sorry alice, but the whole tone of your post didn’t seem terribly torn up. Vaguely down, yes, but not sad. I’m sorry, I thought in light of it that a little humor wouldn’t be too bad. I’ve owned fish, salamanders, and other non-traditional pets before, myself.
