In this thread, , Ravenman said the original (H1) Hummer hasn’t been crash-tested. Wouldn’t it have to be to be sold to consumers?
I believe that the civilian version that AMC sells to the public as the H1 has passed normal DOT crash tests. I don’t know how crash-worthy it is compared to other vehicles on the road.
I do know that the actual military version was never subject to those tests and that’s why you cannot purchase one as surplus (the military is required to destroy them before selling them as scrap - we’re talking cut the frame in half, that kind of thing). There are a couple of military HMMWVs for sale out there but those seem to have been prototypes and test vehicles when they were evaluating the contenders - they were sold off before the DoT ruled on the matter.
