(Old) Hunt for Bed October in the MMP

51 ferret height/11 centipedes out, up from an overnight low of 39/4. This was our fourth night of temps in the 40s – I actually turned off the window fan – but tonight it’s up to 50/10 and the temps go back up to the mid 70s for at least the next few days.

I actually remember part of one of last night’s dreams. I put a $5 bill into a machine that was supposed to give me change, but mixed in with the quarters were two dimes and a nickle, and when I gave the coins a closer look it turned out that two of the quarters were actually English shillings. Don’t remember any of what happened before that, so of course I’ve no idea what that was all about.

Me: Don’t break anything!

The fuzzbutts were pretty good about not breaking things or knocking things off table until about a month or so ago. Since then Jolene has taken out the hand thrown vase I had on the entry table, threw my comp speakers off my desk hard enough to bend all of the plugs, got into the terrarium and ate all of the catnip then tossed dirt all over my stitching room and ripped up the shower curtain. Well, George was probably involved, but I know it all was her idea. She’s been a very bad influence.

Adorable is the perfect word for them, so very cute.

Bright Tree, thank you for getting your covid shot. Not only are you protecting yourself, you are also protecting your community. It’s easy for me, I rarely have any more reaction than a sore arm and a vague ick feeling, its much harder for folks like you who KNOW from experience how bad you will feel, but still do it.

So we went up north to look at the fall colors yesterday and it was slightly disappointing. The forest is just starting to turn and there are only small patches of color, not near what it will be in a couple more weeks.

There were a lot of out-of-state plates up by Lafyetteville and the New River gorge and I felt some sympathy for them. We can come back whenever we want, they are only going to get what they got this year.

WV loves Halloween and there are skeletons galore. Many pumpkins, some ghosts and a notable lack of witches.

I’ve finally picked out a couple of Hydrangea to plant by the bedroom window and will be putting them in the ground today. If I can get hubs to go out with me and tell me where he wants them placed, that is. He’s complaining about having to mow around them, so I want to put them somewhere easy for him. If he keeps procrastinating, I’ll plant them where I want them and he can just deal but he knows I will do this so hopefully will get off his butt by the Sunday deadline.

He hates plants and trees, we do this every time I want to put in something permanent. He really is a smart guy, I’d think he’d have learned to just do it by now.

Good morning.

It’s 49°F, dark, and mostly cloudy. Mostly cloudy skies will give way to partly cloudy skies and a daytime high of 65°F.

There are never too many Otis, or other pet, pictures!

I had a very restless night, so I hope I sleep better tonight.

Swampy, I had planned on pressure washing my driveway, front walk, and both porches this summer. I never got around to it. I guess there’s still time, but we’ll see. I have my own pressure washer, but it’s electric. It does a good job, but it’s not as powerful as a gas-powered washer.

I actually need to change out the toilet seats upstairs. I should probably do that soon. I’ve done it multiple times.

FCM, both my daughter and I have discussed talking via Messenger with the grands, but we haven’t done it yet. Maybe I’ll try it in a week or so.

I’m not sure what I’ll do today. I should bust out the mower. All the rain has caused some really tall grass. Other than that, I’ll probably just hang out at home.

And, I should get my day started. I need to load the last of the dishes in the dishwasher and run it. The floor needs sweeping, too. Those dogs shed a lot.

Please take care of yourselves.

Ah, you are wise in the ways of the Force…

Being an American in the South my very first thought was 'why is boofae going to Krispy Kreme? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: But sounds like you had a lot of fun even if there were not donuts.

Pretty much an identical weather report here in N. Ali-bama.

FCM, never considered painting my driveway, so it should only be a couple hundred dollars to wash plus a higher water bill. And don’t think I’ve had anyone unfriend me on Facebook, but I tend to post infrequently and uncontroversially.

As for me, up around 6:30am, pilled myself and then went out and did the Firday shopping, managed to time it pretty well between not getting caught by the school bus/parents driving kids to school mess and got done shopping just as school got started, so things were pretty clear. The modest amount of groceries have been put away and an apple and some pretzels have broken my fast, so that should take care of my morning duties. Have paid one credit card bill (they both used to be due around the 20th, but when I got one of my cards hacked the new one for some reason had the 5th of the month as the new due date, so I’ve had to adjust).

Otherwise should be a quiet one, at least until 5:30pm when I go forth to coach the 10-11 year olds. Take care all.

That’s something that I’ll miss this fall. SIL and I usually made our annual pilgrimage to Dutch Maid Bakery in Tracy City, TN for goodies and to leaf peep. Nothing like the hills for that.

I tried the 13 Spice powder on eggs this morning. It was reminiscent of 5 spice powder, but with very small amounts of ginger and other spices. It’s a keeper. I’ll be trying the Szechuan chili powder on tomorrow morning’s eggs. It has fruity smell, so if that’s the taste, it should be a good rub for poke.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. After that, I’ll get showered and sheveled and start a load of laundry. Other RDOS activity to follow.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Afternoon all. The weather can only reasonably be described as ‘horrid’. Just a little west there’s proper storm warnings, torrential rain and 100mph winds further north. We’re expecting some pretty high winds, so probably some trees down but hopefully not too bad, My house is relatively sheltered, but I’m thinking the roofing work they’re halfway through on the flats opposite was somewhat badly timed…

The rats are starting to chill out a bit, as I’m spending more time with them, but they still tend to freak out when anything makes a louder noise. One’s a very young pink eyed white one, who’s nearly blind; she can’t really see small treats and hasn’t quite got the hang of what’s acceptable in terms of nibbling to find out yet, but both are starting to accept my hand being in the cage if it has food in it. Anyway, I’m hoping I can get at least one of them ready for helping me with thesis writing in a few months.

Lunch break!! We’ve repaired 2 of the breaks in the fence. One caused by a falling tree, one probably due to deer. The last one is also casualty of a tree, and it’s the corner where the chain link in the back meets the welded wire on the side. Not exactly sure what FCD has in mind - I just hand tools and stuff. Once that’s done, we’ll check the rest of the chain link along the back and the road side. It’ll be nice to let Otis run amok in the yard without supervision.

It’s almost 1 and I haven’t started laundry yet - methinks I’ll just stay downstairs and tend to it once I get started. I’ll have the TV and a recliner and no dog. Yep, that’ll work.

So I was clerking in the Mez today, which wasn’t bad, except I felt a little..what is the word that means the opposite of hot? The Slide was a mess because of the closed on Friday busniess boxes, but we got through it. And of course there were 2 Home Depot damages today. I swung by the liquor store to pick up some bourbon(Spot insisted!). Now laundry is in the dryer, and chili is in the crockpot, so naptime.

Sounds like my kind of band.

I hope you’re wearing a “Do not, fold, spindle, or muuuilate” nametag then.

Tarps always bring torrential rain.

I’d get a human assistant instead. Rats are notoriously bad at footnotes.

But they have 4 feet! They should be better!

We’ve quit for the day. All the big holes are patched. We’ve still got 2 or 3 more posts to put in, but FCD is really hurting and I’m pretty wiped out myself. Laundry will happen tomorrow as it’s after 2 and I donwanna!

I walked the rest of the yard and I’m confident that Otis can’t get out. But I do think we should use a chain on the side gates - I think if he jumped on them, he could push them open. Other than that, the back is dog-proofed and we can turn him loose out there at will.

OK, I need some serious recliner time. After some ibuprofen, I think. I’m too old for this $#|+!!!

You’ve got us to fuss over.

Long Night AND there’s some dramatic local high school football game happening … S.M.’s boss called to warn her that we were probably gonna be slammed hard tonight.

Mona Shores vs. Muskegon High? I think? I was told they’re both 3-2 … whatever the hell that means.

Y’all have inspired me: within the past hour I’ve made an appointment for my flu & “new” COVID vaccinations (tomorrow at 12:45pm), and reached out to a company for an estimate on power washing the house and cleaning the outsides of the windows.

This morning I heard from my most recent voice teacher: I hadn’t had a lesson with her since last summer, but upon confirming the chamber music chorale audition date and time I reached out to see if she might be available for an “emergency” lesson between now and then. Happily, she is! I have a virtual lesson with her scheduled for late Monday afternoon (I’ll leave the office after lunch and finish the day at home). The audition is a week from Sunday; I’ll dive into that prep this weekend.

Last night I learned that WifeBFF is going to need dialysis 3x/week for the next few months. She’s been in the hospital for the past 10 days: a medication she took for just ~48 hours managed to seriously damage her kidneys. They’ve been giving her dialysis and hoping her kidney function would return quickly, but now they think she needs about 3 months of regular sessions – though they still believe that her kidneys can eventually recover. She had a biopsy on Wednesday and is waiting for those results, but hopefully she’ll be discharged soon and they’ll identify an outpatient dialysis center closer to where she and HusbandBFF live. At least they’re both already retired, but it’s still going to suck. Yesterday I told HusbandBFF that as soon as they have her dialysis schedule, we’ll figure out which sessions I can take her to – no question, and no argument allowed. (I know what I’m volunteering for: my mom was in full renal failure for a few years before she died.) Just like when she had breast cancer 14 years ago and I took her to some chemo sessions. They have other friends – near and far – who will help, too: we’ll all rally around them just like we did in 2011. :blue_heart:

In happier news, I’ve decided to “do” Halloween this year. For the past few years I declined to give out candy to trick-or-treaters because (a) it stressed out the dog, and (b) I was 100% working from home and had nowhere to bring any leftover candy. But neither of those applies this year, there are tons of little kids in my ‘hood, and it might be my last Halloween in this house, so I’m back in! Yesterday I picked up four bags of candy (we’ll see how much of it makes it to the end of the month), and I’ve ordered some cling decorations for my storm door. I’m looking forward to the return of my Hallmark "Alive & Talkin’" motion-activated pumpkin, which I’ll put near the front door: it has different facial expressions and says various things, and is always a big hit with the young 'uns. I always need to keep an eye on it, though, because sometimes little hands want to pick it up/take it with them. :jack_o_lantern:

I hear ya! Sometimes I’ll whine a little to myself about something that needs to be done, but ultimately I know that no one else is going to do it. And, as a renter it’s often much faster for me to fix something myself if I possibly can; even a little personal expense is usually worth it.

As you know, users get notified when a friend request is accepted but not when they’re unfriended: some people will accept all friend requests because they want to seem nice/avoid possible drama, but then immediately unfriend folks (figuring they won’t notice). Maybe your former coworker is just a wuss.

Poor Will… :joy:

Howdy Y’all! Been another nice day weather wise here. We enjoyed some back porch day drinkin’ time again this afternoon. We had beerverages this time as we felt less bougie today. Plus we grilled burgers and beerverages go best with burgers. We watched Downton Abbey: A New Era this evenin’. AIUI we will be able to watch the grand finale soon. We still have a season and a half of Shameless UK to watch as well.

Now it’s time to see whatup on teh intartoobz.

Well. Last time my ex called me it was May, asking me to marry again. He usually calls every few months. So today I called the nursing home and they said he died a few months ago. His brother never told me, though maybe he thought I knew.
I have godly discernment so I felt a bad foreboding before I called. Yes, Im greiving. He had MS. Was only 39.

Evening all. Did a little sweating at the gym, worked with the kids, and ate a Big Bowl O’Sallit for dinner, and that was about it for the day. First soccer game tomorrow is at 8am, so will be off to bed early tonight. Temperature is down to 67 heading to 57F so should be a comfortable sleeping night.

Nut, hoped you survived the storms, it has been quiet here.

FCM. glad Otis is getting a yard of his own.

shoe, I think it means no one cares about the records, it’s a ‘local derby’ as the English call it so just be ready for a heavy workload. And I had to look up Mona Shores High School, I couldn’t believe there was a school called Mona Shorers…and there sure is…https://www.monashores.net/ The things I learn at this place…

Oopsie, glad the Mumpers provided inspiration, and great news that the voce teacher can work with you. And hugs for WIfeBFF, that is truly sucky news, especially since it was supposed to be helping her. My mom almost died once because the Dr. prescribed something for her that caused internal bleeding and she needed an emergency operation. And thanks for reminding me that I need to pick up my share of treats for All Hallows Eve.

Coppertone, sad news, even if he was your Ex, someone should have told you about it.

And past 9pm so need to wrap things up and head off to slumberland. Take care all.

Mrs. L.A. didn’t finish her Costco garlic-pesto salmon that I made Saturday. There was a little piece about three inches long and maybe an inch and a half wide, from the thick end. So for my dinner tonight I lightly mashed it into a Carb Balance Whole Wheat tortilla with some tomato cubes, chopped lettuce, and mayo, and wrapped it up like a burrito. It was good.

I got my email address changed for my medical and dental insurance.

How I envy you! My side effects, only for COVID, are not pleasant. Fortunately, I am too stupid to believe they will happen every single time, so each year I talk myself into getting the shot by thinking, “Oh, it won’t be that bad!” And for 15 hours, I can almost believe it. Then the chills set in, the body-wracking sort that no amount of heat from the mattress pad or number of blankets can touch, along with the head, joint and body aches. The worst of it lasts for about a day and a half. And that’s with continual max doses of ibuprofen. I always allot 3 days.

Re Levothyroxine, I keep a bottle of water on my nightstand along with my pills. I’m lazy like that.

Your plant doesn’t sound like a blackberry. If it wasn’t attacking you with its vicious thorns, you were probably safe. But best to be sure!

I’d take that. My dog peed on me today. “Why?” “You’re absorbent!”

That’s what my most recent reading indicates. So yes, definitely worth it!

I’m so tickled with your Muffin progress, by the way! That is one lucky cat.

swampy, you inspired me. I had burgers’n fixin’s, too. With some potato chips. Couldn’t be bothered over the oven fries, though they are usually worth the effort!

JtC, you are ever sweet. But it’s more the aforementioned stupid incurable optimism that keeps me coming back for more. I am nevertheless glad to do my part and wish everyone would. I’m sorry the leaves were a disappointment.

oopsie, have fun! I used to enjoy seeing all the kids in their costumes when I lived in a regular neighborhood. Now, no trick or treater dares to darken my door. I keep a crisp $50 bill handy on Halloween night for the first one that ever does. Halloween was always my favorite holiday until my husband died close in time to the date. I have a lot of great memories of fun Halloweens past.

Funny; that’s exactly how it works for me, too!

Coppertone, I’m sorry about the ex. May your memories be a comfort.

I had an annoying day. A bunch of errands to run, almost all of them went poorly for one reason or another and I could do nothing about any of it. Stupid stuff, like picking up a Roku for my second tee vee in the bedroom in my quest to cut my satellite, but when I went to install it, the recess in the tee vee is too small to accommodate the length of the stick! This is apparently a common enough issue that Roku helpfully offers to send a “short extender” (how’s that for a contradiction in terms?) to fix it. Backordered to November 12th. That’s my day in a nutshell.

Tomorrow will be better! There’s that irrational optimism again! Have a terrific Fry-day, everyone.

I had chili and a Boulevardier for dinner. Watching F1 FP1 and FP2.

They’re not great.

This. Plus I’ve been here since 2010, so I do feel a bit of ownership.

{{{{Coppertone}}}}

I’m so sorry.

GMTA. I made a burger and a salad for supper with a small pear for dessert.
