Hurrah! The ABC is launching a 24 hour news channel!

The ABC (The Australian one) has just announced they’re launching a free-to-air 24 hour a day news channel. Hurrah!

An excellent move on their part and long overdue, IMHO.

It’d be interesting to see the Australian slant on the news. Although having watch all 692 episodes of Prisoner (Prisoner: Cell Block H) and having listend to all the Darren “Savage Garden” Hayes and Helen Reddy albums, I don’t think there’s anything about Australia I don’t already know

I think the best aspect will be having “Real” news (not the commercialised Infotainment often now appearing on the commercial channels) available 24/7 on free to air (you know, for the 75% of the country who don’t have Foxtel or Austar)

It’s a shame they’re using an HD channel for it (IMHO they should replace ABC3 with the news channel instead) but it’s long overdue and definitely a good move on the ABC’s part, I think.

“Tonight at 9, shrimps on barbies, what you don’t know can kill you, mate!”

It’s a positive move that could be great. But if it’s anything like the continuous ABC News Radio service, there will be a lot of filler material from the BBC et al.

Actually I thought the basic rule of thumb down there is that “everything can kill you”
