I was wondering if anyone knows of a place I can find a list of people killed by the hurricane in Florida. I know somebody that was in Florida at the time that I have not yet heard from, and wish to either confirm or disprove some of my fears. Please, if anyone knows, I’d really appreciate it.
I doubt if you’ll find one yet, sorry.
Officials are reluctant to release names to the public prior to notification of next of kin.
There are still people dying. There are probably bodies still going to be found in wreckage. They can’t really publish an official “list” until it’s over, and it doesn’t look like being over for a while.
It’s a mess down there.

Right now, state officials say their main concern is hydration. “We continue to have reports of fatalities now attributed to heat, stroke, (from) people working in this 95 to 100 degree heat in the afternoon trying to clean things up working on homes, things of that nature.” said Lieutenant Governor Toni Jennings.
…“We’ve never dealt with a mass casualty event, and we’re not yet prepared to (verify) or acknowledge the number of fatalities,” said Wayne Sallade, director of Charlotte County’s emergency management. "Yes, there are fatalities. Yes, there are people in those refrigerated trucks at the temporary morgue, but we’re not prepared to say how many. At this point, I’m not sure that I have the accurate number.
“If the toll is what I believe I’m hearing in a storm of the magnitude we went through in this county, it’s a miracle,” Sallade said. “It’s a miracle.”
While hundreds of people have been treated for injuries suffered during the hurricane, the number of missing people remains unknown, officials said.
Because Charlotte County is a seasonal community with an average of about 110,000 residents during the summer and about 200,000 residents during the spring, Sallade said many seasonal residents may have been out of town when Charley hit on Friday, making it hard to determine the number of missing people.

The names of the Charlotte victims have not been released because officials still are trying to notify next of kin or the bodies have not been identified.
“ID is tough,” explained Wayne Sallade, director of Charlotte’s emergency management. “They don’t have a wallet in their pockets. They might not have a pocket.”
Sit tight. Odds are good he’ll turn up.
