Don’t we call that a “tornado”?
Decades ago, when I lived in Davis, we had a wind event that took out trees in a couple of front yards. The news kept saying - it wasn’t a tornado, it was a downburst. Apparently, if you want to micro-manage Og’s wrath, a downburst is what you should pray for.
In order for that to be true, one would first have to show proof of the existence of a god of some sort. And in addition, one would have to ignore that facts that we are right at the high point of the 2017 hurricane season, and that we are approaching the peak of the 70 year Atlantic multidecadal oscillation.
Methinks we’re gonna see some rough storms for the next couple of seasons.
Geeze people. The OP didn’t ask if god were actually punishing red staters, he asked what people who already think god punishes liberals would think.
Trust the SD to have at least one scold in an otherwise fun thread idea.
And, in answer to the OP, no, they’ll never make that connection.
That was my suggestion for what we should say to people who think that way. Simply - there’s no such thing. Sorry to be a scold.
That would be cool.
After the Northridge Ca earthquake, some fool had posited that it was punishment for all the pornography. (At that time, 90% *of the world’s porn came out of Chatsworth. Chatsworth and Northridge are next to each other in the San Fernando Valley)
The porn industry in Chatsworth did not miss a beat. As soon as power was back up, they were back shipping porn and making bucks.
I always wanted to ask that fool a question. “If God was trying to destroy the porn industry, is he incompetent? I mean, it didn’t work. Not even a little bit. But some innocent folks got fucked up.”

He’s gonna need a really, really, high wall.
Too many of my relatives actually believe this sort of nonsense for me to find it funny. Yes, yes, you prayed really hard and God didn’t destroy your town, he destroyed the next one over. I guess next time they’ll pray better. Your religion sounds lovely.
Considering that some of the hardest hit areas were the few blue counties in those red states they would;t be inclined to view God as punishing Trump supporters. The OP would need to get out of his or her echo chamber to post effective insults - just like a conservative would.
Yes, it is.
Not to mention stupid.
I suggest you find glee elsewhere.
Actually, no, that wasn’t what he was asking.
But even if a god existed, why would we think he was punishing us for Trump? Most people were praying FOR Trump as opposed to Hillary.
Probably not, considering that Houston and Fort Bend County went blue last year, that Orlando, Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville are blue, that 47% of Floridians voted for Hillary, that the southernmost-tip counties of Texas are blue, and that the inland regions such as the panhandle of Florida, which can be more easily evacuated northwards, are red - and that the blue counties in Florida and Texas tend to have higher population.
… In other words, the slight majority of people affected by the hurricanes are actually Hillary voters, not Trump voters.
I have it on Divine Authority that God metes out severe punishments to people who misuse ellipses. Just sayin’.
It just shows your relatives’ god is more powerful than the god of the next town over.
I find it mildly amusing.
Reality follows The Onion.
Checks thread title.
Houston and Miami are states?
DAMMIT! TURN OFF DEFAULT SIGS!
God’s been sending hurricanes to pound the Southeast for centuries, and the red staters just outbreed Him.
