Hurry - Everyone bring your bikes inside!

Your Kryptonite bike lock might suck.

Oh, and free Coca-Cola for all my friends.

I saw this on Engadget earlier this week, so promptly tried it out on my $90 lock, but could not get it to work-- neither could some bike store owners I know.

You can find a list of the most vulnerable locks here.

Apparently Kryptonite is rushing its new locks through, and will provide them gratis for anyone who’s registered their key number or has proof of purchase. Since I bought my New York Chain last year, and their warranty is only for new bikes, I never registered anything, so that might blow chunks.

More info here, with links to video demonstrations. I’m glad they don’t use cylinders like this on house and apartment doors.

And they laughed at me for using and old-fashioned link chain and a combination lock!

Of course, my ancient coaster brake is so frumpy it’s less likely to be stolen than a $1,000 mountain bike anyhow.
