The long quote of Stephenson was fun, but a bit of a cheat. A huge cheat, actually.
The point of the amoral folk calling the Victorians hypocrites was that the Vics had developed this whole huge moral code which THEY THEN CALLED ON EVERYONE TO FOLLOW while they couldn’t or wouldn’t follow it themselves, i.e., were hypocrites.
The amoral folk can justly and safely criticize the Victorians for not being able to follow the moral code that they propose for everyone, because the Victorians are clearly either liars or fools. Liars, if they are promulgating the moral code without any intent of following it themselves, or fools if they sincerely wish to follow the code, but find themselves unable to, yet somehow believe others will be able to follow it.
True, this does not constitute a direct attack on the code itself, but most practical-minded folks will find the information that its proponents are unwilling or unable to follow it themselves … indicative.
The fact that the critics of Victorian morality are amoral (I strongly suspect that this claim is also a huge cheat – you can be moral without being Victorian) is moot wrt their criticism of the code.
In short, your point is pointless.
