I actually feel bad for Hillary

Now first off, most of you callous souls will immediately think to yourselves, eff her, she chose all of this and it’s all her fault she is in the mess she is in.

That can all be true, and I still feel a bit of sympathy for her.
She has been deeply disliked for decades, but kept pushing on, she would have won against McCain in 2008, but lost to Obama, even so she still stuck around to try one last time in 2016. And she lost, she lost to one of the most flawed candidates in American history. Now it turns out those very flaws were probably what boosted his support with a population that sees everything in their waking life as if they are under siege, but it was Hillary that was the bulwark against Trump, and she is the one that failed. She has been at this for literally decades, she chose to go into the senate to boost her credentials, ran and lost in 2008 for the nomination, became secretary of state, became the nominee in 2016, and after all of that effort and planning, she was rejected on the national stage. DECADES of work and planning burned up in a funeral pyre. She will be forever remembered as the levee that broke against the Trump/alt right swarms.
I can imagine where she is right now, hundreds/thousands of people that work for her, that were counting on her capacity to win the day have to look at the fly by night operation of the Trump campaign win the day. The immensity and weight of the disaster and failure (let’s not forget, now the republicans have all 3 branches of government once the supreme court picks and future replacements come through) is probably why she decided not to concede tonight. I can’t say I blame her. It must be hard after all that time and wasted life to just give it all up now, to just let go. If I was her, as a grown man, I’d run from public view and cry in a corner.

Too sympathetic? What can I say, I felt the same when McCain lost in 2008 (to a lesser extent).

You think she’s gone? She’s not gone. She has her foundation to keep her in the lap of luxury, and life long Secret service protection/chauffer/butler to keep her from collapsing on the street.

People simply do not like Hillary. Even Hillary supporters don’t really like her. She must be aware of that by now. She made a power grab and she failed. Again. Life goes on.

I’m with the OP; I still love the Clintons, and Bill is why I was a Democrat for 8 years (I first registered to vote 8 yrs ago). Hillary was a great senator as well. I kept them in high regard, even as my disagreements with Obama and his party over the years, grew over time.

I hope Chelsea has more kids.

As the wife of a former president, she’s as entitled to that Secret Service protection as Barbara or Laura Bush.

I hope the Clintons have a comfortable retirement with many years of good health.

I was very worried that Hillary wouldn’t survive the Presidency. This isn’t a political statement. I honestly believe her health issues were down played by her campaign.

I hope she focuses on her family. She’s worked tirelessly her entire adult life. It’s time to enjoy life while she can. Travel. Spend time spoiling her grandkids. Embrace her senior years.

Bill seems to have a great post presidency life. He supports social causes through his Foundation. Maybe Hillary can join forces with him and make the Clinton Foundation even better?

She has conceded. Many people seem to have missed Trump’s victory speech in which he revealed that Hillary had called him to congratulate him on his win.

He also did thank her for “her years of public service to her country.”

I think Hillary will deliver the speech in the morning to see where the popular vote is, as well as use the occasion to be gracious herself. I hope she does say she wishes the best for him and success, but only on the condition that he dump some of those alt-right types.

So the loser of the election should wish the winner success but only if the winner follows the loser’s guidance about how to govern?

Gosh, I can’t think of why the Clinton base was perceived as arrogant.

You actually think the poster you’re replying to is part of the “Clinton base”…?

I think he’d actually be insulted by that.

I am more saying she should should wish him success provided that he tells the Pepe the Frog trolls, as well as the CTists like Alex Jones, and most strongly David Duke and KKK types to fuck off; they are toxic, and while I don’t think they represent the majority of his base and certainly not of his GE voters, they make enough noise to be noticed.

It would also probably be in his interest to do that now that he’ll be Prez, he can’t “MAGA” again, and because of that, his own party will need him to make the midterm elections bearable for it. Also, for re-election in 2020, he’ll need to improve on this election, which he didn’t win by a ton in the popular vote, if at all in the popular vote when they’re all counted.

This isn’t as much about how to govern as about how to lead. It doesn’t mean he becomes for open borders and refugees. It simply means that those who would poison the national discourse get put in their place. I know that most of his supporters are honorable and decent people. But he is now leading the most powerful nation on Earth; we can’t afford to become a European country with the extreme parties they have over there.

While I’ve always been a big fan of Bill and Hillary Clinton, and did vote for her, I was on the fence until the 3rd debate, and yea, temperament and his pattern of doing/selling things that look good but are complete crap is what got me to her. I don’t think I’d be characterized as part of her “base.”

This is not true. Polls showed that somewhat surprisingly more of her voters were voting for her rather than against Trump and it was the Trump side that was voting more against her. Anyway, I like her even though I supported Obama in 2008. I listen to her podcast regularly and find her a warm and appealing person. And my heart breaks for her for all the reasons listed in the OP and more.

Karma, chickens coming home to roost, what goes around comes around, etc. She is despicable, corrupt, dishonest, unlikable and I don’t feel the least bit sorry for her. She got the dream opponent she wanted - a miserable, narcissistic buffoon - and she still lost. Her political machine back-stabbed Bernie at the same time it wanted Trump as the opponent. And she didn’t even have the decency to come down and thank her supporters last night.

I worry about a Trump presidency, but not as much as a corrupt Hillary presidency that would not only have perpetuated government corruption, but elevated it.

Assuming she had noble intentions while running for president, sure I totally feel bad for her. It was a lot of time and effort and hard work to lose to an orange-haired billionaire. But she must be delusional about how a large percentage of people, liberals and conservatives, feel about her. And you can’t call ~25% of the US population “deplorables” and not expect some consequences. Didn’t work for Romney either.
